Really? That was a fun one. Back from the days when midcarders were allowed to look real good in the Rumble....

I loved that Rumble, had some great spots in it. Certainly a step up from 1997 and 1996's 'who the f***?'-fests.

i mean austin was the only one who had a credible chance of winning it, but it was fun.

I personally really enjoyed that Rumble ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) The one that came a year later however still remains one of my least favourite Rumbles ever.

That's my least favourite Rumble ever. Others had nobodies, were badly booked, whatever - but how many Rumbles can you name that 1. put over absolutely nothing except one feud 2. featured extended periods of time in which there was LESS THAN ONE PERSON IN THE RING?

The one Rumble where there was technically 28 people involved, because three entries were the same guy.

I loved it. Funk and Foley giving each other the chair to hit each other and Foley coming back out as Dude and Jack was awesome

This was the first Rumble I paid attention to and had a winner picked out (Rocky) so this is still fun for me to watch.

Bradshaw lasted like 40 minutes in this. Skull was the DOA who was jumped and didn't make it. Tom Brandi lasted mere seconds against Cactus and Chainsaw. Owen Hart made an awesome comeback and made Jeff Jarrett his bitch. I loved this rumble.

I probably misspoke.
It was a fun Rumble, with some neat spots, but, to me, it seems like it was entirely booked around Austin, and nothing else. I said it was boring because with the exception of the whole Foley-Funk face off, all that happened was everyone waiting for Austin, with the added bonus of building up The Rock.

But the 1999 one is even WORSE for that, the whole thing is booked around Austin/McMahon but there's not even anybody in the ring for most of the Rumble.

\Owen Hart made an awesome comeback and made Jeff Jarrett his bitch. And then fell on his butt on the entrance stage chasing Triple H to the back.

The 99 Rumble was okay, but at the time it was AWESOME, it was my favorite time and Austin, Corporation and DX could do no wrong. I remember being so mad at the end of it

I found it odd that lower midcarders(Bradshaw, Skull, Phineas Godwin) were in there for 30 something minutes, while upper midcarders(Owen Hart, Ken Shamrock) were in there for not even 10 minutes.

98 was a decent Rumble for mid carders, but pretty predictable and the mid carders in 98 were just in that period where Russo hadnt quite given everyone something to do so some of them were pointless losers no one cared about but stuck around for long times.
99 had that ending which, at the time, and probably still now, is one of my super mark out moments so I dont care if it was a poor Rumble aside from the end and Kane.

I think Legion nailed it as to why I was bored during the majority of this Rumble.
They were still in the transition period from New Generation to Attitude, and Russo's "Something for everyone" style of booking hadn't really taken hold yet. So while the ring filled up, I was waiting for the monster to come in and clean house. And that never happened. So all I was left with was a bunch of midcarders and a few guys I cared about basically just killing time.
Like I said, there were some awesome moments, but the majority of the match just gave me a "meh" feeling.

I actually watched the 1999 Rumble recently, and it's got a bit of a charm to it because of the ridiculousness of the roster. It's strange though, because the Attitude Era is supposedly notable for having all these guys that were over as hell, but there's also a lot of cannon fodder in the first third of the match that nobody ever gave a damn about or were completely irrelevant in every sense of the word.
Road Warrior Droz, Kurrgan and Golga of the Oddities, Tiger Ali Singh, Dan Severn, Gillberg and Blue Meanie from the JOB Squad, and Mabel right before he morphed into Viscera.

Brings back memories of the line Val Venis gave Big Show at the urinals. "And they call you the Big Show." heheheh. Val Venis needs to be at the 20th anniversary show. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODiflG86R0M
