Which guys from this era can you see fulfilling that role 15-20 years from now? Common sense would say Cena, but are there any others that you think might end up doing the same thing?

Orton maybe?
Just in the sense of show up and RKO somebody or something.

John Cena.
If he's able and willing to work a match a several years after retirement, then WWE is going to bend over backwards to bring him back to fight whoever is at the top by then.
EDIT: I should have read the OP more clearly. Aside from Cena, I don't think there's anybody who's going to do the amount of business that Rock is able to.
You might bring in Randy Orton, CM Punk, or Rey Mysterio, but their return 5-10 years from now wouldn't be an "event" like Rock's was.

I don't think you're ever going to find someone again that can just go out there after being gone for years and wing it in the middle of the ring alone for 20 minutes and have the crowd eat it up every time. Not like the Rock.
It doesn't even matter what he says. The crowd wants to cheer him for everything. If he comes out and has bad material the entire time, they won't care and most won't even notice.

Yea, as of right now this is the only guy I can see doing it and the only one who we can really count (right now). I don't see Orton being that dedicated once his career is over, and I also expect Orton's career to be over prematurely through his own idiocy.

Yeah I was only throwing him out there as another option; cuz really, Cena's just about the only choice at this point.

Rey Mysterio. Show up in the mask, hit the 619 on a heel who turns into the new face's finisher.

Yeah, I am basing that on him being able to walk but figure it cannot be worse than when they drag out Jimmy Snuka. Almost forgot Daniel Bryan. Won't be at the Cena level but I can see him showing up and doing the YES/NO stuff with someone and having a match or two. Maybe even Jericho like where he has a 6 month run helping make someone in the ring.

By then I think Bryan's character will have evolved a bit to where he has other schticks besides YES/NO, so he'd be good in that role.

Who WILL be that guy? Triple H, but that doesn't mean he should be or that people will be stoked on him doing it. One of the reasons Rock's return is so big right now is because of his out of ring success. He reaches multiple demographics in and out of wrestling. I can't see anyone else reaching that level of success right now besides maybe Cena.

Rock is still a reasonable worker age. Cena would be pushing 50. Then again Austin is as well, and can still maintain his "look", who knows.

I feel like Cena is more likely to be in the Undertaker role.
As far as actually leaving and maybe coming back every so often I could see maybe Punk doing that. But it's hard to say really. Because only Cena right now is near the level of The Rock/Austin and I don't see him ever truly leaving in the way The Rock did/has. I just see him becoming a gradually less regular part of the show.

Cena would be the only guy that could leave and cause a big stir with his return like Rock.

Who WILL be that guy? Triple H, but that doesn't mean he should be or that people will be stoked on him doing it. He's different though due to his real-life role in the company. It would take a big name retiring early to be able to do Rock's role so maybe CM Punk? I see him in more of the Piper role though.

the Rock is a special talent, there will be others that come back for special appearances but none like the Rock where he comes back and is cheered like mad no matter what he does.

The Big Show is 40. If he were to retire this year, take ten years off, then come back in great shape I think it could be a huge angle.
At 50 years old he will likely move like a slug, but it's more about the spectacle than anything.
