How do you feel about it? I wanted to put invasion, but I thought movement was a more appropriate word. Lately, we've seen bands like The Lumineers... Imagine Dragons... and Of Monsters and Men Score major hits with nice, simple folk rock songs - radically different from the music that typically sits on top of the charts. Now, even though this music isn't a preferred genre of mine, I welcome it with open arms (especially The Lumineers, being from Colorado and all ). The songs are simple, catchy and they have a ton of meaning - and, even though I like modern pop, it's a nice change up from the usual. So FAN, how do we feel about this sudden Folk Rock movement in the mainstream music world?

I don't mind, it's good music so I welcome it, yeah, some people hate this "Indie" thing but I really enjoy it so I hope to see more new acts coming out on the next years whether they are Indie Rock, Indie Folk, Indie Pop or any of their sub-genres.

I'm all for it, but I'm all for anything that gets us away from soulless hip-hop tinged dance pop.

Love folk rock/americana revival in the US. I hope it continues and effects change in country and rock, it's two main roots. Also, I'd love to see even more bluegrass influence in the music, but that's just me.

One of the better trends in over a decade. It problem partly stems from the recession that we are getting music with more heart, soul, and meaning. We have had entirely too much empty music in the mainstream for entirely too long.

I dig it. I'm normally a metal/hardcore guy, but I enjoy a bunch of random folktype stuff like this.
Been really into Of Monsters And Men, The Decemberists, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Frank Turner, Into It. Over It, Murder By Death, The Gaslight Anthem, and a few other things in that range.

Love it. Hearing The Lumineers on Top 40 radio is a great change of pace from the hollow, overly-synthesized norm. I tend to gravitate to the bands with a more "country" sound, like The Decemberists, The Tallest Man on Earth, Mumford and Sons, The Avett Brothers, The Civil Wars, etc.

This is going to sound REALLY hipster - and I fully acknowledge this:
I was listening to this kind of stuff back when it was actually indie - like 5 or 6 years ago. A lot of these bands are nice - but the market is so damn saturated with this stuff now I'm getting a little sick of it. I mean, a lot of these guys are at the top of the charts already and have tons of mainstream exposure - not that there's anything wrong with that, just that its a signal the trend is on the down hill now.
The Americana trend is huge right now though and I'll gladly take it over what certain other genres are bringing to the top 40 scene, but after so many years I want to switch it up.

All music since Wesley Willis died is about as good getting your ass kicked by Birdman.

I'm not a fan... just can't get into it.
That said, I'm honestly glad it's getting exposure. It opens a door to a genre and helps other musicians get noticed that, probably, wouldn't have gotten noticed a few years ago. It gives people another alternative to listen to, and I'm all for that regardless if it's my taste or not.

To second Numero 99, I don't want to sound hipster but I have been into this for so long. I hope to see this open the door for The Forecast, Band of Horses, New Pornographers among many.

as an acoustic musician who plays out ALOT, this could only mean good things for me in terms of more venues taking a chance on me. which means... MONEY!!!

My entire run as a concert promoter (98-08) I was booking stuff like this, it has been around with a very strong following for a long time. Like any music the stuff that is underground is often better than the mainstream stuff and takes more chances.
