Everyone bashing him on his looks and name in this thread is a mark. Well, I never!

Well I've been following the guy in his appearances on Superstars and the other B-shows over the years and I think he's improved tremendously since his NXT/Nexus days. I think a big problem is too many people are waiting for him to turn into his father, a pretty boy technician. That doesn't really fits him. He's much more like his grandfather, with a rugged, more beat-em-up style. If they work with that, give him more of an ass-kicking tough guy/enforcer type role, they might have something with him.

Agreed, partially why I find his desire to cling to what little hair he has left counter-productive for the guy. With it, he looks like a scrub. Without it, I get the distinct impression he'd look like a bad ass, killer.

Everyone bashing him on his looks and name in this thread is a mark. Guy is one of the best in ring workers in the company and has excellent charisma. He really does need a push or at the very least tv time. His name deserves to be bashed. This is an entertainment industry. The name "Michael Migillicutty" is not a name that will sell, or make people believe that he is big time. Now Brock Lesner, that is name that just screams ass kicker.

I see you Brock Lesnar, and I raise you Chael Sonnen. Chael Sonnen. He ain't the only one either; Jose Aldo, Urijah Faber, Kenny Florian - the names in fighting aren't always the toughest sounding. Then again, neither are the WWE's. Dolph Ziggler, anyone? Bottom line, whatever's holding him back, I have no reason to believe his name's one of those things.

He's always had that bland look, but solid skills. Pair him up with someone charismatic and you got a heck of a tag team.

The more I think about it, a McGillicutty/Alex Reilly tag team would help both men out tremendously.

Speaking of McGillicutty, whatever happened to his sister? I remember she was looking to break into the business a few years ago also.

He's CRAZY over in NXT. That crowd is so hot for him. They gave him a "headlock" chant! These aren't hardcore wrestling fans, it was organic, not even mentioned by the commentators. He's very naturally charismatic, much like his father.

Those names, both in MMA and WWE might not sound tough but they don't sound like something an indies Rock ripoff would call his opponent. A name may not help a person but they damn sure can hurt and "McGuillicutty" is laughably bad.

About all this "his name is holding him back" business - Dean Ambrose is quite possibly the least intimidating name I've ever heard in my life. It sounds like something a horticulturalist would name a new species of dandelion he discovered. Dude still looks like a scary badass and nobodies complaining about how that name is holding him back. The "Michael McGillicutty" name is the least of his problems.

You can't be comparing a legitimate sport (at least I think MMA is legit) to an industry that is nearly half theater. There's a reason Issur Danielovitch Demsky went by the name Kirk Douglas and Henry John Deutschendorf went by the name John Denver. John Denver sells a ton more albums than Henry Deutschendorf, and Kirk Douglas sells more movies than Issur Demsky.

Okay, this is fantastic. The rope running reminds me of what CW Anderson used to do.
