Just a quick thought after reading comments and threads this morning around the Interwebs....is there a more condescending word in our lexicon these days than "bro"? If so, what is it?
I'm at the point where Gandhi could come back to life and say "Cool story, bro" and I'd be like "Man, what a dick that Gandhi is"

What's condescending about it? "Cool story bro" is a generally snippy statement, but bro itself seems to be used in an endearing way in most other cases ("Sup, bro?").

Bro, are you serious!?
Real talk though, I use the term "Bro" in a joking fashion quite a bit with friends. I prefer "dude" with people I don't know etc though.

I honestly don't say how "bro" is condescending or offensive in any way. When I use it, I usually mean that same thing as I would if I used "man", "mate" or something like that.

I use the full "brother" more often than "bro".

Bro is often used in conjunction with expressions like "Lol U mad?", "U mad, bro?" so I can see where it gets its reputation as being condescending.

Bro's been around a helluva lot longer than the Internet, and yes I'm sure you know that, but just saying. I don't find it condescending, ignorant etc, but maybe that's just me.

The word automatically makes me think the person saying it has no idea what their talking about(I've pwned many who have used it in an argument). "Dude" will always prevail.

I think, unless you have a close relationship with someone then "bro" is on the bubble of douchiness for sure.
But if its someone near and dear to you, that you consider them family - then its different.

I know a few people who insist on calling everyone "dude" or "bro". I loathe it.
To me, a "bro" is a douche bag and a douche bag is a "bro".
