Just curious as to everyone's thoughts on this show. My girlfriend and I have recently started watching. She really likes it, but I personally cannot stand it. Think the characters are generally whiny and unlikable. Plus for a show that takes place in NYC, why are there no people of color in the main or supporting cast? I feel like I am in the minority with my disdain for this show, so just want to see what my fellow members of the FAN think of this particular HBO show.

I go back and forth on it. I loved parts of season one because it seemed very authentic-to-life -- I can totally believe like this exist -- but at the same time, the show makes my stomach turn because I'm trying to comprehend how such people exist. Marnie and Shoshanna are the best characters, Hannah is OK most of the time, and Jessa is an absolutely detestable bitch. Just one of the worst characters I've ever seen.
On the people of color thing, it really doesn't bother me considering even in big cities, people have their cliques they run with that may or may not include someone outside their race/ethnicity. I think that's a realistic touch. No need to shoehorn a black or Indian or whatever person just to change the show's atmosphere. I've heard this complaint a bunch, and I do think it's a weak one.
I would definitely stick with season one if that's what you are on. A few moments are honestly something special and the show's sense of humor is really peculiar and particular, and I like how committed it is to its vision. It's super-zeitgeisty and detailed, and I enjoy that about it.
