Goldust was awesome, but I agree that it'd be nice to see him come back as Dustin Rhodes (NOT Dustin Runnels). Remember back when they tried to have him be just Dustin Runnels (he was awkwardly preaching the idea of having morals or something) and he would come out with no music and really bland attire? In my opinion it was laughably bad, and I assume many others did too since they eventually reverted him back to Goldust. I saw a house show during the "Dustin Runnels, guy with morals" period. Let me just say, it's pretty bad when the crowd is evenly split between cheering you and cheering your opponent, evil Tiger Ali Singh. Anytime Dustin has tried to put a sliver of "real life" into his character, it's been horrible. ALWAYS. (Remember "Forever Unchained," a.k.a. "F.U."?) His heel/face logic was impossible to figure out. Late in 1997, he abandoned Marlena/Terri, right? So he's clearly a heel, and we should hate him. HE LEFT HIS WIFE FOR LUNA VACHON. Almost a year later, Terri hooks up with Val Venis. And Dustin, forgetting that he is a schizophrenic adulterer who wanted nothing to do with her before, is HORRIFIED. Terri is his ESTRANGED WIFE, dammit! And she's sleeping with a porn star! Get behind Dustin, everyone! HE'S BEEN WRONGED! Russo at his finest, I guess.

I don't know, I don't like bringing up someone being the booker on tv. Yes, we all know it's booked, but I still don't think it should be brought up as part of the show. It's supposed to seem at least somewhat real, and acknowledging a booker completely blows that apart. I think a bigger part of that issue would likely be that most people don't have a firm grasp on how wrestling IS booked, and therefore the reference could well be completely lost on a fair amount of the audience. And honestly, I think a heel run for Goldust in the mid-card could be great. Dustin showed he's got a penchant for getting under the skin and carrying a good heel side, and both brands are really hurting for strong heels. I don't see Dustin carrying anything above an IC level, but I think he could help the mid-card out by showing them how to do the gig.
