If you're about to get fired and someone else (or you) attacks the boss, then you get to keep your job.
It's not like VKM could call the HR department from the hospital the next day and say, "send Heyman his severence, he's out of here."

I'm thinking that if someone else attacks the boss, the boss' focus shifts to the person that attacked them and they forget all about firing someone.
Vince is thinking about Lesnar now and has forgotten all about evaluating Heyman's performance.

It's a big part of why wrestling awesome, the overly literal logic. Another thing like this recently was Damien Sandow diving under the ref's hand as he made the 3 count on Cody forcing the ref to hit his back instead of the mat. The ref knew he had just counted Rhodes down, but had to respect the fact that he hit Sandow's back instead of the mat, there wasn't even an inkling of a question or confusion.
