Country music singer Mindy McCready has committed suicide, according to FOX 17 and multiple other reports. She was 37.
Stacy McCloud, a reporter at FOX 17 in Nashville, tweeted:
“A close family friend of Mindy McCready has informed me that the country singer has committed suicide.”
A short time later she tweeted:
“The Mindy McCready suicide I told you about has now been confirmed from 4 different sources. A statement from the family is in the works.”
McCloud said she spoke to McCready’s family who confirmed the news.
Shortly after 9 p.m., FOX 17 posted on their website:
“Fox 17 News has now confirmed Mindy McCready has committed suicide.”
Andrea Canning, a correspondent for NBC News, is also reporting McCready committed suicide on Sunday. Canning said a family friend told her that McCready “shot and killed herself this evening.”
E! News and TMZ are also reporting the singer’s death.
McCready, who was an American country music singer, was born on Nov. 30, 1975. She recorded five studio albums, including her debut album Ten Thousand Angels back in 1996. McCready gained notoriety back in 2008 when her relationship with Roger Clemens was made public.
About a month ago, McCready’s boyfriend, David Wilson, died at the age of 34. His cause of death has has not been released, however the investigation is still open.
TMZ reports McCready’s two children were removed from her home by a judge on Feb. 6. She was also committed to a treatment facility for a mental-health and alcohol-abuse evaluation.
She was released two days later.
McCready had attempted suicide twice before – once in 2005 and once in 2008. She has also made several appearances on the VH1 show “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.” myfox8.com/2013/02/17/mindy-mccready-dead-of-apparent-suicide-according-to-report/

I feel the most bad for the children. They now have to deal with the fact that their mom's demons caught up with her and now their lives are in limbo at this point.
I hope for the best for them.

I feel sad for the children. One has lost both parents before even turning one year old, and the older child may not even remember a time when his mom was any sort of normal. Hopefully they will get the help and guidance they need in life.

How incredibly sad. I was a country fan in the mid 90s and I liked her first album. The fact that she was really hot didn't hurt either. Just a damn shame. I hope her children can find happiness some day.

I'm shocked. I really am, I know she had her problems, but I just didn't expect this to happen

That's a shame. A waste of a talent and a life, and two young kids now without a mom; the baby without both parents. Just a shame.

Damn, that sucks. Didn't know about her issues, but wish they could've been resolved in a better way than this.

She killed the dog too? Ugh. Why do I always feel worse when I hear dogs are killed too?

She killed the dog too? Ugh. Why do I always feel worse when I hear dogs are killed too? WTF! Why kill the dog? usually when that happens, in the suicidal person's mind, they would want someone to take the dog (or other animal in) but realistically nobody would want to adopt it. She knew her kids were in good hands, but she also knew her dog would likely end up being euthanized for no reason.
