So, popular YouTuber Onision recently uploaded this video, a song that parodies the obese and the morbidly obese. The song talks about in detail, fat peoples' lack of self control and how they eat anything they can, despite how bad it is for their bodies.
Needless to say, the video hasn't been a hit. Multiple people have flagged the video, and it currently has more dislikes than likes. The attention that the video received prompted a response from Onision on his vlogging channel.
Which hasn't gone over too well, either. Fellow popular YouTube boogie2988 put out a response to the video, in which he didn't name names or tell the title to the video (although, obviously, people found out who he was talking about)
So, FAN, what do you think? Is the song just meant for comedy and people are taking it too serious, or was it meant to be a serious jab at people who are fat for whatever reason that might be?
I personally believe that Onision went too far, and, unlike what his vlog would like to have you believe, I don't think the video was supposed to be a PSA on healthy food and the dangers of unhealthy food. It comes across to me as a guy who doesn't understand the multiple reasons that one can be fat or morbidly obese (especially the latter), and that it's often a deeper reason than "I just like food". It sounds like a guy whose parents have never had much trouble buying fresh food, and have never had to buy packaged food because they could afford the pricier alternative. Basically, to me, he comes across as somebody who shouldn't be speaking with great confidence of a topic he likely knows nothing about.
I'm not a prude when it comes to comedy, and I don't believe that anything should be off-limits, but that's so long as it's funny. Onision's video comes across as thinly veiled hate thrown under the banner of comedy, so that the excuse of "hey, it's just comedy, man! Chill out" can be used when somebody gets offended.
Anyway, FAN, what say you?
