ZA: What are you doing with my ring? XD (I think you mean season 5) (I haven't opened any of the PMs or caught up with this thread yet, sorry Tyger. I'm just really busy and should respond properly to this thread on Monday. Gonna see whose in the game too, when I do. Catch you later then.) No problem; we have a while yet before judging and we're just getting everything started. Z-A stole my wallet last game, so watch him.

We shall see Brad. I, for one, think that it's a good thing that it was a hard decision. Sometimes, the easiest things in life aren't the best things. Huh, reminds me of a Filter song. The hell happened to those guys?

Mine is sent in. Hopefully it lives up to last round's performance.

So stupid question for clarification: Are we being judged on how the judges feel the song fits our personality, like who got it closest to their actual selves? Or are they going to look at the songs and decide based on which song they think is the best out of the choices? Good question. I judge based on song choice effect. Sometimes, I say "clever" when thinking about the thought that may have gone into making a song fit a particular category. HOWEVER, it's mostly the merit of the song itself that will earn you points with this judge. Example: Song Category: Time Street Spartan chooses Billy Joel's "The Longest Time" Pegasuswarrior chooses Sisqo's "The Thyme Song" (a song about a kitchen spice) Although pegasuswarrior clearly has made a more clever song choice for the category the song itself sucks rotten eggs. Street Spartan get my highest ranking for kicking butt with the song choice itself, not because it fits the category best. Also, I will say that sometimes when some categories pop up, consider if overexposure or overplay has killed a song before you go with an "obvious" choice. A lot of times, I will say that as a judge, when I see a category, I do sometimes think, "Oh gawsh, I hope no one picks _______." For instance, Cover songs. I would say "Please don't pick Johnny Cash's "Hurt." Nothing against that singer. Nothing against the song. It's just the most obvious and talked about cover I've ever heard and it doesn't make me happy to see lazy gameplay (it makes me think you Googled to find a song, instead of showing off your own musical prowess). However... Disclaimer: originality doesn't always equal "great song." But I do LOVE original thought when it's clicking. Bottom line: have fun and show us your tastes and what you think is "good" in the landscape and scope of all that good music out there in the world.

Well looking at this entertainment lineup here: www.hollywoodcolumbus.com/Entertainment/Entertainment%20ScheduleIt's only a matter of time before they come do a show at the casino here. I mean they can't be too far behind Tonic, Vertical Horizon and Fuel. I'm still mad that I missed En Vogue

And the pick is in... I expect a usual disappointing Round 1 to be followed up with an awesome Round 2, tis my pattern when the scope of the round is so broad.

No problem; we have a while yet before judging and we're just getting everything started. Z-A stole my wallet last game, so watch him. Oh Tyger, not like it was a big loss. No cash, old blockbuster video card, and a condom that expired in 2004. And I gave it back. Liar. That condom expired in 2005. Ahem. To add my two cents on what Peg said about judging song picks: Each judge can employ their own criteria for their rankings, provided it's done in an unbiased manner. We look for judges who have had some experience playing this game before and who have demonstrated a pretty good knowledge of music. Most importantly, we look for judges who have shown that they do not discriminate against certain genres or time periods, et. al; it does not help if we have a judge who will constantly rank, say, a hip-hop song or a song recorded after 2000 on the bottom for just that reason. Judges have their own criteria but a couple of traits seem to be possessed by good judges. Many good judges like new, exciting, risky, "outside of the box" picks. Many good judges also like songs that flat out sound great. And many good Judges love it when you can merge these traits together in a song. Some good judges also love nostalgia and using good logic. So, picking a song that they remember or making a good, logical pick, such as using Weird Al in a comedy round, could very well garner a better ranking from them. This is all subjective, of course. Here's an example of thinking outside of the box and doing fairly well because of it: Season Six (PKSandman's season) introduced a category called "The Planeteer Challenge ", based off the cartoon "Captain Planet". Contestants had to pick one song (send in one song, not send in five songs) inspired by one of the following elements used by the Planeteers: Earth, Fire, Heart, Water, and Wind. Well, one contestant picked Michael Jackson's "Beat It" for Heart, which people said was brilliant (it was before my time, so I can't comment) because it wasn't an obvious interpretation of the round but it was perfectly legal because Beat It can certainly refer to a heart. Brilliant, brilliant choice with as strong a song as you can imagine. And I don't keep my condoms in my wallet, that's terrible for them. Have to keep them in a cool place.

I was the one who chose Beat it that round But I thought it was for Fire not heart I think one of the lines was fire in the eyes or something like that.

I know some of the judges commented that it made a great heart pick. So, happy accident then. Still, that's the sort of cleverness that can help one to do better in the competition.

Great. Sorry for the delay, had dinner. Oh, excuses, excuses. Really cool to see this game moving at such an amazingly fast pace. Great going, guys. Taco Night . Yeah, thanks everyone. We almost have all the picks in. Remember, though, that the deadline is Wednesday 12am, so please be a little patient for those who haven't sent in their picks yet. It's not that they are slow at all, it's just that you guys are fast. When I get all the picks in, I'll send them to the judges and post them in the thread, so I'll do that as soon as I'm able to.

so if would things get pushed up if the fast pace continues, or results should still be expected at the end of the week regardless?

Or are they going to look at the songs and decide based on which song they think is the best out of the choices? I've never been a permanent judge prior to this competition, but I have been guest judge a few times. Personally, I don't really care if it matches the person's personality or not, I just go by what I feel to be the best song for any given category. Now, "best" will change depending on the category, of course, but matching a personality isn't a priority to me.
