Not trolling and have attended CZW live multiple times. Not a fan of the spot or other no-sells and "upping the ante" gimmicks I've seen in CZW. Here I can see no one is not allowed to be a CZW critic. Generally speaking, it's just forehead slap-worthy nonsense of WHO is doing this supposedly groundbreaking stuff. Outside of CZW, this spot would not happen with Lio Rush. Denying this is denying the very core of CZW.
They've had good matches outside of spot eyebrow raisers like this one. You seem to be implying that I'm saying they haven't. But the *identity* of CZW has always seemed to be "our guys are tougher than yours; watch this." And in that process, a lot what "this" is makes no sense in the context of wrestling, an event that shouldn't be about putting yourself above the fundamental aspect of what it is. Lio's ordeal and others CZW has done is a middle finger to me as a wrestling fan and more of a naive ego stroke as if other companies couldn't do the same, and only their product has wrestlers with this capability. In the process, this and other shenanigans do more to make wrestling stupid than ever evolving. That's my take on it. On the note of "look what we can do," I'll compare it to why I hate Shane McMahon. They give him the opportunity to do spots no one else on the roster is allowed to do, but ones that tons of people would do if given the opportunity to get over like that. Point is, Lio Rush gets to bounce up like that? Lio Rush? Seriously, CZW, look at your roster of people over the years, and you're going to do one of the biggest no-sells in wrestling and waste it on ... Lio Rush. THAT's what I'm saying about CZW. Defines CZW in so many ways for me. I can't remember how many Lio Rush matches I've seen where he takes the pin outside of CZW. And then this? It's like the company has blinders on sometimes. It's so incongruent to wrestling's big picture. Not saying that they should book Rush like a chump. But this is just clip compilation fodder that was referenced in another post, and the stuff that the bookers seem to lap up or else they wouldn't quit going this route. It's not a once in a company's lifetime kind of moment. They have a track record.
I also know not to stir the hornet's nest when it comes to the CZW base. That's mostly the reason I don't strike up a conversation with any CZW fans about the company; it's cult-like in its overprotection of the product. I slipped and made a comment here after seeing others had caught on to the fact that the spot was questionable. Questionable booking and match sequences is a defining characteristic of CZW for me. So I'll leave my explanation at that from the perspective of someone who watches he product, but isn't really loyal to the people in charge. I wasn't and am not trying to make the handful of people who defend CZW at every turn mad or trying to convert them. I was weighing in from the perspective of as casual fan of the product who does and has seen plenty of full shows. It's just a different perspective and one where CZW has been defined by head-scratching moments like this through the years for me despite some fans claiming and giving slight glimmers of hope that they've gotten this kinda thing out of their system. I slipped and entered the lion's den on the heels of others who had made good points about spots like this.
I don't think it kills wrestling. Just more of a blemish for me against a particular promotion that allows this.
I get it, I shouldn't have come near this thread. Just read and move on like I normally do in this one. I got caught up in piggybacking off of what others were saying about the incident when I should've just steered clear altogether.
