I remember thinking to myself, especially when he was running with the ConMan gimmick towards the end of his tenure, that Rob Conway was going to break out and be a big star. I loved his theme, his attitude and his moveset and I was sure, given a little more time, we'd see him being a top heel in the business. Obviously we have the term Conway Pop for a reason but what did you guys think of him and, given more time, do you think he could have made it to the top of the card?

I don't think we'll ever really know. He had talent, his run with La Resistance was promising, but as cool as the theme was, it was wildly ineffective as a wrestling theme. While I applaud the WWE for experimenting with it and trying something outside of the box, it was always going to be associated with him so long as he was coming out to it and proved to be too much of a hurdle for anything else to shine through.
EDIT: If you enjoyed his later work, I'd suggest checking out his 2010-2011 run in JCW. Great stuff.

That theme killed any chance he had dead.
The Rock in his prime couldn't get that theme to work.

I'll agree that while I loved it the theme might not have been really appropriate for a wrestling show but the fact is that the look and the theme really added to the gimmick and as a package I thought it was amazing.

I think, specifically, it's the very beginning of the theme that just sort of slowly fades into faux-Randy Newman piano music. Had they had like a soundbyte of him saying something or a crash or a guitar squeal or some sort of opening note/sound that signified "HE COMES SOMEBODY!" instead of just slowly turning up a Casio's player-piano demo, it would have made a difference.

I never saw him wrestle.
It's hard to tell...just by....looking....at him.

Conway was a talented son of a gun, and in OVW he was one of the kings of that place. Everyone paying attention to OVW pegged him as a future legend for WWE and that he'd be in the main event in no time.
Then La Resistance happened.
Honestly, as much as I enjoyed it and felt he helped balance the team in terms of in-ring abilities, it was a death sentence. It would've killed a lesser man's career much quicker. Then what's next he gets saddled with? The ConMan? Not a bad idea on paper, not unlike Jake Roberts' Snake gimmick actually, but in execution? Less Robers and more Axe & Smash.
Without the benefit of being huge, muscle men in the 80's.

Obviously we have the term Conway Pop for a reason [/img]
That wraps it up there. Not everybody is a "could've been".

Also if someone is calling his JCW work great and recommending his stuff then surely there is something missed there.
