So, Hallmark's airing, I believe anyway, the entire I Love Lucy series in its morning block - and given that I've never really watched the show much before, I decided to give it a chance.
Long story short - I love it. Sometimes when you're talking about older shows, the humor and overall vibe feel dated, but I just don't get that with this show. I personally believe that this show could be put on today and it'd do just fine - it's just a fantastic show.
So, FAN, what are your opinions on the show? Love it? Hate it?
One reason I started this thread was to show this awesome home movie footage I came across a few days ago. It's footage from the show mixed with 8mm footage from a taping that somebody went to. Pretty damn cool.

I cannot stand Lucy on that show (liked her more on her next headlining show). But I love every other character, I love the madcap stuff that happens. Just cannot stand all the whining and crying. you can get up to stuff and be more pleasant.

I think Dick Van Dyke show is better, but this was a big part of my growing up, always watched it at my grandma's house. Bit hilarious to find out just how much the actors who played Fred and Ethel DESPISED one another in real life.

I still love this show and catch it whenever I can on tv (though not so much online even though hulu put the whole series up).
Though, man Sometime's the characters turn into total assholes.
Lucky this was the 50's. If they wrote a female character that acted the way Lucy did, women would be up in arms about what a dumbass she is. She literally was just spending money left and right without regard to how little Ricky made, and quickly got bored of everything she bought, and had to have new things to show up her friends. Not to mention trying to leech of her husband's success.
Ricky was kind of dick to deny Lucy any kind of chance of success considering how much she saved his ass with her antics.
The Ricardo's and Mertzes seemed to fued every other episode over the randomest things. The two stupidest I can recall is that Ricky offered to drive them to California and they got mad when they asked them to chip in for gas. Also, when Ricky was subletting the apartment, Fred got all pissed that Ricky was getting more rent money from the subleaser.

It's funny reading about the behind the scenes. Fred and Ethel didn't like each other. Ethel was unhappy that they both made her frumpy as to not upstage Lucy but they had her married to someone almost 20 years older than her. She even turned down an offer of a spin-off with Fred because she didn't want to work with him again.
