I always assumed Norman DID kill her. I wasn't aware the silly "Spidey did it by accident" theory was canon. hell, during his epic nervous breakdown during Thunderbolts, Norman pretty much shouts out how great snapping blonde girls' necks is. I was thought it was meant to be ambiguous. With Peter assuming it was his fault... as is his usual deal ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

What was the main reason that the government thought Norman Osborn would be a great leader for their espionage and law enforcement agency? I know since the Skrulls infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D., it made sense to do a restructure of that. But to choose the GREEN F***ING GOBLIN AS THE LEADER? Were they drunk or high as a kite when they thought that would be a good idea?

The government has though before that Captain America would make a good agent, despite his silly devotion to this idea called freedom. They will give anyone a badge.

Were they drunk or high as a kite when they thought that would be a good idea? apparently shooting the Skrull queen makes everyone forget you're a serial killer who BOMBED HIS OWN ARRAIGNMENT HEARING. they did a story where he had someone else attack him while dressed as the Goblin so he could say "see it wasn't me". this somehow worked even though there was no doubt in the mind of anyone as to who the Green Goblin was at that point. it was just one of those classic "we don't care if it makes no sense, Bendis has a story he wants to tell" moments.

Maybe it's my 90's upbringing talking, but I always thought of Venom as Spidey's #1 bad guy.

Maybe it's my 90's upbringing talking, but I always thought of Venom as Spidey's #1 bad guy. Well, to be quite frank, during the 90's Venom WAS Spiderman's number one baddie. Dr. Octopus was dead for a few years and didn't really do anything of interesting note. Norman was also dead, and, IMO, Harry seemed to be head scratching to me. I guess I couldn't sympathize with his desire to live up to his overly abusive father, nor was I really buying that he was able to take on and even beat Spiderman. Sure, he had an "improved" Goblin formula, but Peter had been fighting and defeating far bigger and far badder things than any "improved Green Goblin." Marvel kept throwing the "it's all my fault!" crap out there, and I just didn't buy it at all. Venom, on the other hand, was during huge things. He was really the only villain who knew Peter and Spiderman were the same, he was used sparingly (in the early 90's) and only really got ruined when they tried to turn him face. Of course, I'm a sucker for "evil versions" of super heroes, and Venom, IMO, fits that bill rather nicely.

To clarify, the Michelinie/McFarlane Venom is what I think of as Spidey's number one baddie. There was a real menace to the character then, before Erik Larsen went ridiculous with the design and they did all that Lethal Protector hooey.
And I really want to pick up some of the new Venom trades soon. Heard it's quite a good book.

*shrugs* I guess the way I remember reading them older comics Norman was flat out defeated in a way like he never was to me. Trapped in a mental prison of his own making seemed like a fitting end, and we really didn't hear from him again for a long time after that. I kinda enjoyed that sort of ending, but yeah I agree that there wasn't a payoff final physical struggle for superiority since the Final Chapter last issue just abruptly starts with Spidey having Norman webbed up as the Green Goblin, when last issue Spider-Man was basically dead at Norman's hands...
...ohhh now I get it. Yeah that's kinda a fakeout way to end the whole multi-arc grudge between arch rivals. Wow Norman wins no wait it's a delusion Peter wins! But I think showing how real the fever-dream victory over Spider-Man was to Norman while he was slowly going mad is a more entertaining read than what actually happened in reality with Spidey's POV.
I swear Norman was unmasked at some point but I could be misremembering... but it's not like anybody remembers when Peter Parker unmasked, so it[s cool
