After the success of the Dynamite Kid documentary, Highspots have announced they are starting a new kick starter for their next documentary. This new documentary will be about the Crocketts, chronicling from when Jim Crockett snr first settled in Charloette, North Carolina up to the sale of JCP to Ted Turner. Highspots released a video on their youtube channel featuring the owner of Highspots.com, Michael Bochicchio and Director Michael Elliott discussing their plans for the upcoming project.

I hope this doesn't become a pattern, that whenever someone wants to make a wrestling DVD, they do a Kickstarter. I thought it was supposed to be for companies trying to launch, not already established businesses. Speaking of which, remember Jeff Katz? Good scam.

It's not like its a donation, you get things in return.

Well, the Katz thing is an example of not being required to give anybody anything in return. He took all that money in 2011.
I was under the impression Kickstarter is meant to be a way for a new concept or business with no money to get off the ground, rather than be for already established and successful businesses to continue making their products.

Couldn't they spend some of the money they made reauthoring other traders DVD compilations and selling them on their shitty website?

I really felt ripped by Highspots with the Dynamite doc, they went over to see him with the promise of doing a Shoot with him, and i was excited, but then they get back and say how much they want to make a documentary, then ask for a kickstarter to do it. But if they did they shoot, wouldn't HIS stories be enough to tell HIS story, why did we have to wait months just so they can pad the DVD with parts of shoots from their library, get Davey to do some wrap arounds and shoot some location shots in Calgary.
Then pad that out in a 2 disc DVD and charge $25 for it, I would of preferred to see the shoot as is, and get in months ago and bypass all this Davey business and pay $20 for it.
I know the kickstarter's get something in return, but it seemed unnecessary to do all this run-around, when THE MAN's stories would of been enough.
Not to mention with all the merch they got him so sign, and then they sell it, wouldn't that have been enough to pay for some location shots and Davey to say how much Dynamite inspired him.
Speaking of Davey, the next thing that really bothered me with Highspots was when they announced the Davey vs Steen feud/sit down/shoot DVD. Steen made it perfectly clear in his shoot that there was no beef between him and Richards. Davey said some comments, and Steen phoned him and they talked it out. Doesn't seem to mean there is so much heat that they need to make a DVD out of it, when they just released a Steen and Richards shoots not but 6 months ago.

I agree, it's becoming more and more just a means of pre-ordering something (at some risk that you'll never get it), which I don't think was the original spirit behind kickstarter.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand Kickstarter is supposed to fund creative projects. If it was some totally unknown people starting from scratch even if they had a company name picked out I probably wouldn't think anything of it, but if it's ok for them then why not Highspots? It kinda feels different, but maybe it's not.

I threw a few bucks in for the dynamite doc and wasn't thrilled with what came out of it. Won't be contributing to this one

I just got finished with the Dynamite doc. Kid has about 6 or 8 lines in the film, and he is just answering questions and doesn't even give that much of an answer, just basically a no or yes to events.
I think it was less of, "we did this shoot with Kid and he has such a great story to tell, so we need to make a doc." but more of " Oh s***, we just came across the pond to do a shoot, and we have nothing to show for it, because Dynamite barely spoke, so we need to salvage this fast."
Most of the new interviews with Bret, Bruce, Keith, Harry Smith and Kid's daughter, were all good, and had heaps of information, so it is still a great doc to an extent, mixed with heaps of old shoot interviews from people who worked with Kid, and it is well produced. But you can see from a mile away, that they felt burned by Kid's "shoot" so they had to really work hard to make something watchable, to make up for promising a shoot with Dynamite.
A bit misleading stating that he was such a great interview and they need to do more to tell his story, so they need funds, when dynamite speaks a total of 5 minutes max in the movie.
I reconmend getting it for sure, because Bret and co, really paint a great picture and there is some great stuff there. But don't expect to hear much from the man himself.
