I hate it when someone posts pretty much the exact same news story for a week. Like last week or two weeks ago there was five separate stories about kids getting suspended from school because they made a gun gesture with their hands, a chicken nugget looked like a gun, army men on cupcakes, throwing invisible hand grenades, and making a stabbing gesture. All in a span of seven days. Every reply was the exact same thing like how can kids be kids, stupid PC, I should of got suspended back on my day, world is falling apart. Rabble rabble rabble At least something random was different The school stuff had value from a cultural perspective because you are learning about news and a strange trend that's out there. It's something that informs, and it's something you can share with others in a FB post or conversation. That isn't the case with the random stuff. The random stuff is like in-jokes made public.

I prefer an unpopular opinion with substance and modesty. Like most anywhere else on the internet, "hate" is used a little too liberally as is outright exaggeration. I admit I am guilty of being too brief myself though.
I now wonder what a simple "Opinions" thread could bring to the table. Instead of arguing popularity posters just get straight to the point.

We should have a monthly town hall thread where we can air our grievances with one another in a civil matter because it seems like we have a thread started every few weeks about not liking a certain type of thread or poster's gimmick.

But they are all the exact same thread with the same posters and same convo's. Outside of Army Men on cupcakes, all the other suspendable actions are the same. You can cut and paste the same article and only change the schools names, kids involved and ages, suspendable action, length of suspension, quote of upset parent, and you're done.

You are right in that can get redundant when the replies tend to repeat, but again, there is substance in the first posts and something to discuss if people want to engage.

This thread has really opened my eyes. I consider myself kinda an outsider here, but now I've come to realize...
I really need to get in on this gimmick stuff. Maybe I'll be the crazy hats guy or have a monkey sidekick. What if I became positive news guy? I gotta do some brainstorming.

I hate when people have to make "opposite" threads. They usually start with "Inspired by the worst/best ______ thread, what is the best/worst ______?" Try being original.

At least something random was different A randomness thread on FAN is about as different as a snowy day in December though. EVERYBODY makes topics that make no sense. Heck, besides you I can think of two other guys who've made it their thing. Making threads to encourage discussion shouldn't bother anyone even if they're spinoffs of each other. Some can be superfluous but at least the effort's there. The memes that people latch onto and run into the ground are a different story entirely... Edit: And the irony of this thread is just amazing...

Yes, I know this is a bit hypocritical considering I've posted in them (and that was mostly due to me moderating them), but I just realized it's possibly my absolute least favorite thread type anywhere. Not only do they get unnecessarily heated 75% of the time, but the vast majority of opinions expressed aren't even all that unpopular. It just feels like we're patting ourselves on the back for weak attempts at being controversial. I'm not trying to enforce or dictate anything, but that's how I feel about them. If I never saw another one again it would be far too soon. well that's your unpopular opinion about unpopular opinion threads sorry had to do it

I dunno, when I see threads that I don't like, I just don't open them.

Yeah, we need more threads about people's ass hair and their latest romantic failures instead.

They are not bad but they do become annoying when they pop up every other day. Also, it is like no one reads them because most of the time people say the same thing as another poster. Therefore, making their post not really unpopular.

I like the variety of threads on here. It's the only forum I've been on where you don't get a ban/warning for posting nonsense.
