Marrying Lisa Marie Presley did his reputation no favors.

Hasn't he always been considered a weirdo or joke? I mean, the Elvis/Superman obsessions predate Wicker Man.

Wait a minute. He named his kid Kal-El? Cage is a massive Superman fanboy. So, yes, he named him after Superman's alien name. Not even Clark or Kent, but freakin' Kal-El.

"I'M A VAMPIRE! I'M A VAMPIRE! I'M A VAMPIRE!" I kid you not, that movie made me a fan of Cage and is one of my favorite movies ever. Even in the commentary, Cage talks about the different forms of acting and compares it to art, it's quite fascinating to listen to. And I used to HATE the guy, but he's been in some good stuff; Raising Arizona Moonstruck Vampire's Kiss Wild At Heart Red Rock West Leaving Las Vegas Face/Off Con Air Adaptation Matchstick Men Lord of War Bad Lieutenant; Port of New Orleans I've gone from loathing him, to really enjoying some of his performances. And I'll give him credit, he at least always gives it his all in any movie he's in, which is probably why he's a joke...most other actors just would take the paycheck and go.

Marrying Lisa Marie Presley did his reputation no favors. Hey, she's the one who's obsessed with super talented but impossibly eccentric men.

Yeah I resent the idea that Nicolas Cage is a joke actor. I think Wickerman really got the ball rolling on people not taking him seriously and I even piled on. After watching that move we went on a bit of a Nicolas Cage ironic appreciation marathon but I actually wound up being won over by him. He has a lot of bad movies but he never half asses it, he's always compelling to watch, and there are some movies he's done that I can just watch forever. The Weather Man is just brilliant, and Bad Lieutenant is amazing.

The one thing I like about Nicolas Cage over the top performances is he never winks at the audience and acknowledges that he's playing over the top not breaking the 4th wall. You actually believe that's the way the character of the movie is suppose to be. That's the problem I have with most over the top movies. They are too self aware. It's what made the Crank movies special only being self aware at the end of the 2nd one with Jason Statham giving us the finger. Mostly directed to the people who hate the movie expecting it to be something else

Not even Clark or Kent, but freakin' Kal-El. considering Nic Copolla took the name "Nicolas Cage" as an homage to Luke Cage, you'd think he'd just name his kid "Luke". even weirder, Kal-el Cage's mother later married Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir of all people, making one of the weirdest 6 degrees of Separation I can think of.

He used to have a massive comic book collection but sold them all. He had a near mint copy of Action Comics #1 that was stolen but later found. I think he ended up selling it with the rest of his collection.

I have never disliked Nic Cage in any complicity and always liked his work. There was a movie I recently watched Kiss of Death for the first time where he was a mob boss and the guy from CSI was an undercover agent. man was I rooting for cage the entire time.

Well any movie with David Caruso, you're going to be rooting for the opposition by default.

Speaking of Cage's Supes obsession, does anyone find it funny how he was considered for the title role during Superman Lives's development given how perfect a Luthor he could have been?

Add me to the fanclub. Yes, he has some awkward moments but he's SO unique and tries to many different things in his movies I can't help but like him. I'm almost glad he got this weird image, because if he didn't Drive Angry wouldn't of gotten made and I love that movie like a fat kid loves cake.
