I'm a fan of Nicolas Cage, but I still admit that he's a bit crazy.
And any excuse to post this:

"I'M A VAMPIRE! I'M A VAMPIRE! I'M A VAMPIRE!" I kid you not, that movie made me a fan of Cage and is one of my favorite movies ever. Even in the commentary, Cage talks about the different forms of acting and compares it to art, it's quite fascinating to listen to. And I used to HATE the guy, but he's been in some good stuff; Raising Arizona Moonstruck Vampire's Kiss Wild At Heart Red Rock West Leaving Las Vegas Face/Off Con Air Adaptation Matchstick Men Lord of War Bad Lieutenant; Port of New Orleans I've gone from loathing him, to really enjoying some of his performances. And I'll give him credit, he at least always gives it his all in any movie he's in, which is probably why he's a joke...most other actors just would take the paycheck and go. You're missing The Rock. That movie was awesome, and is still Michael Bay's best movie. Snake Eyes was also pretty good.

considering Nic Copolla took the name "Nicolas Cage" as an homage to Luke Cage, you'd think he'd just name his kid "Luke". even weirder, Kal-el Cage's mother later married Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir of all people, making one of the weirdest 6 degrees of Separation I can think of. He used to have a massive comic book collection but sold them all. He had a near mint copy of Action Comics #1 that was stolen but later found. I think he ended up selling it with the rest of his collection. He's also a big Ghost Rider fan. Why he wanted to be the lead in the movie. But much like Supes, I don't think he really fit the bill. Though now that someone else has said it, him cast as Luthor would be amazing.

Plus, I'm a Gary Sinise guy, so knowing how plainly obvious it was that he was the bad guy made it not so fun. And Cage was only running at 230% in that movie as opposed to the 790% we usually see him at.

I loved The Rock.
Gone in 60 Seconds is watchable too.

the only real problem with Nic Cage as Ghost Rider is he's too old. Johnny's clearly supposed to be in his late 20s-early 30s at the start of the movie, but Cage was almost 50 at the time of the first one. and he's not like Johnny Depp where he can pass for being younger than he is. I don't think he'd be right for Luthor but if they wanted to get him to play a Superman character I think he'd make a great Dan Turpin, especially if they wanted to do a 4th World spinoff.

I wonder how weird Tim Burton's Superman starring Nicholas Cage would have been if it had got made.

The Bees was definitely the moment. The rest of the movie was cheesy as hell, but that was the final push.
And then he embraced the inner Cage, and began taking any role whatsoever.

WICKER MAN, easily. Hell, WICKER MAN is so awful that it flies back around the Earth and both becomes awesome and makes the legit WICKER MAN movies terrible all in one blow. Wait a minute. He named his kid Kal-El? So did Jon Bogdanove - one of the guys who drew Superman throughout the 1990's. But then again, that guy drew Superman - Nic Cage wanted to BE Superman. Possibly for real, too.

What's funny if I'm reading this thread as "Cage did this and Cage did that"

Rare exceptions aside, it's been downhill from there.

Am I the only one who loved him invoking Adam West in Kick Ass? Nope, vastly superior to the book in every possible way.

Am I the only one who loved him invoking Adam West in Kick Ass? Favorite thing about that movie. The pairing of Adam West Big Daddy and Violent Angry Potty Mouth Hit Girl.

Am I the only one who loved him invoking Adam West in Kick Ass? I did not go into that movie thinking I'd like it as much as I did. I wonder how weird Tim Burton's Superman starring Nicholas Cage would have been if it had got made. I believe there is a documentary in the works about the proacduction of this movie. Even more than that I wish we could have seen Darren Aranofsky's "The Wrestler" starring Nicolas Cage. Crazy to think he was almost Randy the Ram.
