Meat is too delicious for me to feel bad about the death of some farm animals.

Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he'd eat you and everyone you care about!

It's even gotten to the point that cows cannot survive in the wilderness by themselves, completely domesticated.

Meat is too delicious for me to feel bad about the death of some farm animals. It saddens me when people talk like that, as if animals deserve death and should only be alive for people to eat and to mistreat. Im a vegetarian for moral reasons, though i have eaten meat before and felt bad about it. I just dont understand how people find it funny that some living and breathing creatures they cause no harm to anyone, are raised and often treated badly or suffer a lot before being killed and cooked for food.. Apologies for the rant, just a passionate animal person myself!

Yes.
I DESPISE plants. Acting like they're so much better than us animals, just relaxing for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, just breathing in carbon dioxide and breathing out oxygen like they deserve a medal or something- we're the ones doing the opposite, and do they give us any thanks? I think not.

This thread reminds me of a joke. How do you know if someone is a vegan? Don't worry they will f***ing tell you. It sounds bad, but every vegan I know talks about it more often than is needed. I feel I should go into detail about the steak I ate last night, or the sausage butty I had for my breakfast! But yeah, I only buy from a locally sourced butcher, and honestly, it's worth it. The meat is some of, if not the best I've ever had.

I do. Difference is, there's very little I can do in a globalized marketplace to avoid buying goods that might have been produced under harsh, sweatshop like conditions. I could simply not buy things, but it can be exceedingly tough to exist in the modern world or certain professions without goods that are, sadly, made under conditions that are unethical at best. With food, there's a lot more freedom of maneuverability, e.g. I could seek out organic farms, I can avoid buying meat, I can support local food growth, etc. So yeah, one can feel bad but also be realistic about what one has or doesn't have much control over. And watch your tone, too. Watch my tone? I'm just asking a question. I never understood why someone would avoid eating meat for moral reasons *health reasons of course are a pass* and guess what. You answered my question, I have a coworkers who refuses to buy any of his electronics or clothing unless it comes from a union protected factory. I mean that you can ask the OP a question or point out other parts of the typical American lifestyle where immoral things happen without the "omg" and coming off as exasperated or impolite. If that wasn't your intention then I apologize, but it comes across that way, and we're looking for more people to begin being aware of that.

As a constant meat-eater, I feel immensely guilty, but I really have become basically addicted to meat and feel deeply unsatisfied if I don't get to eat it. I honestly wish I didn't eat as much meat, but I can't see myself living life happily as a vegetarian/vegan considering every one of my favorite foods contains meat and I love to eat. The poor conditions of the animals bothers me much more than the idea of eating meat in itself (which is kinda twisted if you give it some thought with how many meat-eaters have pets they love and wouldn't dare eat).
But Ghidorah does raise an extremely important point. We are living in a f***ed up world where most of what we own/consume is tainted, and trying to get by in 2013 without having any of the things born from bad conditions is next to impossible. I have little doubt that the shoes and clothes I wear were created under s***ty conditions for the workers, as were the consumer electronics I use and probably my car and anything else big. I'm sure that even with the paper that makes up the magazines and books I enjoy means someone got screwed or oppressed along the way. The more I think about it, I feel worse for the people who are in bad conditions rather than the aniamls.
It's not just goods made overseas, either. It's on every strata of society. If you are getting something at a reasonable price (and to a lesser extent, if you have made a substantial amount of money through business), it means there's generally a pretty solid chance someone else is either suffering or the capitalist system is screwing over someone to get there. That's reality.
I really do appreciate the intentions of people who want to live those lifestyles where you actively try to support American-made/union-made products, but you know what? You need to have a lot of money to live that way regularly, which is just not feasible for many of us. Regularly buying locally sourced food and the like is not cheap and takes a lot of commitment, and the same goes for buying electronics or whatever else. I get the feeling most people who live these lifestyles (not all, but most) are speaking from the pedestal of being moneyed (I'm going to assume that for the younger people, it comes from family wealth), which makes me doubt the typical sustainability of that lifestyle as a whole in a capitalist society. Maybe things will be slightly better some day, but as of right now, you generally can't live well and integrate regularly in 2013 America without making moral sacrifices. It's one of the reasons I've become disillusioned with punk ideals since I was a teenager/in college. Good intentions, but let's get realistic.

One other thing to add: As a meat-eater, the only thing that's worse than a self-righteous vegetarian/vegan shoving their lifestyle in your face is a self-righteous meat-eater doing the same. I hate the phrases "People for Eating Tasty Animals" (haw haw) or "I'll eat four cows for every one you don't eat." It's just such an extremely defensive and base way of thinking. At least discuss the idea of vegetarianism/veganism without resorting to the lamest cliches ever.

I feel absolutely no remorse when I eat meat. It is part of nature. The stronger beings eat the weaker beings.
I also have a different view than most people on this as well since my Dad has been a butcher my whole life. Meat has brought shelter to my family.

I feel absolutely no remorse when I eat meat. It is part of nature. The stronger beings eat the weaker beings. This is a really fair point, although as humans, we have adapted to the point where, with effort, it's possible to generally lead a healthy life without having to eat those weaker beings, which makes meat-eating largely unnecessary from a practical (not taste) standpoint. I don't think it's as hardwired into our brains as some people say because there is a lot of things we do/practices we have as humans nowadays that go against our animalistic instincts and Darwinian perspectives.

The thing is it isn't really natural to have to cook and prepare meat before consumption. It's not like in the wild. It is a choice we have made, we could live comfortably without meat where as many wild animals could not.
Yes there are a lot of wrongs in the world but this is one that is not that hard to correct for most of us, from a cost and availability perspective that is. Since I've stopped eating meat I've spent less on food. It isn't too difficult to simply buy more vegetables. Vegan is admittedly more difficult. I eat a fair amount of organic dairy and I'll admit that costs a little more.
The biggest hurdle for me is willpower, I still have to remind myself at restaurants etc to avoid meat dishes.
Simply saying 'well the world has gone to hell so what difference will I make' doesn't really cut it in my mind. I'm just trying to play Devil's advocate here, I completely appreciate how hard it is to just drop meat altogether. I just think we owe it to the animals to at least know and understand what they went through in order to suffice our appetite.

Thank you for saying that, because it absolutely drives me crazy the way some meat-eaters act (I said some, not all). Sometimes it's worse than vegans. Look, it's your decision to eat meat, and it's my decision not to. I don't bother you about it, so knock off the caveman chest-beating 'RAR I MAN AND MAN MUST EAT ANIMAL' , the annoying 'People Eating Tasty Animals' and 'oh well you eat plants and plants are alive herp derp derp' stuff. And you wonder why vegetarians sometimes act the way they do towards you. And to the carnivores who act sanely and not like a 5 year old? Thank you, it is muchly appreciated. You enjoy your food, and I will enjoy mine. And we can get along.

I don't really feel guilty about eating animals. It's protein and a complete source of amino acids, and I like the taste. If you choose not to eat meat for moral reasons, I have no issues with it, but I just have never felt guilty.
My general policy as far as beliefs is, I don't mind if you say it, but don't be an asshole. No matter what it is, being an asshole to others won't convince people that you're right.

The thing is it isn't really natural to have to cook and prepare meat before consumption. I would argue this isn't true for humans. Human's have had fire for over 1 million years and they have been cooking with it the entire time. In my mind, that makes it natural for humans. For the rest of the animals, not so much obviously.
