I find it weird how scrutinized the actions of heels on wrestling programs are yet the antagonists on any other television show/Movie/comicbook/videogame can do whatever they want and people accept it as part of the show. I'm through reading the thread at this point. I usually just stay quiet and let the people who love to harp about every little thing go on about their business in threads like this, but I'll give this line some attention. I imagine people hitting the *pause* button on Grand Theft Auto while taking time to reply to threads like this about offensive material in wrestling. The quoted line above it nails it. If anything, I worry more about the saturation that wrestling has undergone. No wonder it all sucks so bad. It's like organizing a Major League season where there are limited home runs all of a sudden. If you're playing GTA, you know what you are getting into. My view on this subject is as long as there is a purpose and payoff, heel it up. CM Punk is going to get his from Taker this Sunday. You want to see him pay for his transgressions. The point of being the heel is for you to eventually get your ass handed to by the good guy.

Don't touch the crowd, don't pick on anyone who isn't "playing along." Don't pick on kids too young to understand what's going on.
Absolutely everything else is fair game, as long as it makes both guys more money.

When the object is to anger people, it's hard to say how far is too far. Someone is going to be offended no matter what you do. And back in the old days, when a fan got offended they didn't rant and moan on the Internet about how their sensibilities were insulted. They came to the next show with a knife. Obviously there are some things that shouldn't be touched, but then again, why shouldn't they? It's important to respect people but heels aren't about respect. They are characters meant to offend by design. So what if it bothers people? People are always going to be bothered. Damned if you do, damned if you don't dump fake ashes on The Undertaker.

As long as they're not breaking any laws, it's cool by me.

I don't know if it is going too far, but there are some things I don't want to see discussed because they're too "real", and it's not what I watch wrestling for.
Race Religion Politics Children, i.e. Who's Dominick's father..

The thing is, wrestling is a very different form of entertainment. It's not really comparable to tv dramas and movies. It's a show that tries blur the lines between real and fake. So it's kind of unfair to say anything goes, then hide behind the excuse that it's all scripted when someone gets offending by it.
So with that being said, I see no reason why things like race, religion, sexual orientation, or other hot-botton topics like that need to be brought up just to get a superstar heat. Because more often than not, things like that lead to 2 kinds of reactions. People get legitimately upset and voice their complaints, or people just laugh at the ridiculousness of how far the WWE will go to make a heel work, when the fans are just not buying it. And neither of those reactions tend to make the WWE more money.

After the Lawler thing and now Paul Bearer! It has been proven that you can never go too far for heel heat in the WWE.

I don't think anything should be completely off limits. I get my assumptions in the South Park logic, if this specific topic is considered too far because people get offended, then anything with enough complaints becomes off limits too. That being said, WWE has given us racist storylines (Booker T/Triple H feud), religion (Vince/Shane vs HBK/GOD), politics (too many to name), death (Guerrero, Paul Bearer), child endangerment (Eddie Guerrero), and necrophilia (Triple H/Kane). What else is there to do that is offensive enough to drive fans away?? Would this be too far: At Wrestlemania CM Punk sneaks into catering and dumps the Urn Ashes into a big 5 gallon bowl of chocolate pudding and stirs it in. Heath Slater comes around the corner and takes the entire bowl with him to his table and eats it. Because who doesn't like to eat 5 gallons of pudding. Later on that night Slater's voice begins to crack, they add darkening levels of eye shadow every time he appears on camera through the night. By the time Cm Punk and Undertaker wrestle, his hair is red and half jetblack with his skin all powdered snow white. Big black bags under his eyes and his voice is super screechy. he comes out in a morticians suit and helps Undertaker destroy Cm Punk. Slater becomes the heir apparent to the Undertaker Legacy when the Undertaker dissolves into a puff of smoke in the middle of the ring, leaving behind only his trademark hat. Slater puts the hat on, his eyes roll back and he shoots lightning from his fingers into the sky! Then Kane comes down to congratulate Slater for becoming one of the family. Slater turns to Kane and after shaking his hand, he suddenly bites Kane in the neck! Kane falls to his knees and passes out as Slater drinks the blood of the devil's favorite demon. After taking all the powers from the entire Undertaker Legacy, Heath Slater tosses aside the Three Man Band and becomes the Dead Man Band. He wields a flaming guitar on his way to the ring and is in all ways totally awesome. The End. You are clearly in the wrong thread... officialfan.proboards.com/thread/470134/pitch-wwe-storyline-wwes-creative

The issue with modern wrestling is that everyone has to have the potential to turn.
Many wrestlers spent their entire careers as either heel or face a few decades back so they could be as heelish as they wanted and not have to ever worry about being popular.
These days, we have people turning babyface and thing, well I guess Taker is a face now we'll just forget that he's tried to kill any number of people.
