I might add that the above mentioned point is part of what really irks me about Russo to this day: he honestly expresses no repentance. Yeah, he has said he regrets how raunchy some of his material was-but he still does not admit to just how stupid some of it was or the ultimate results of it. Instead of his ideas crashing and burning because they were just plain lousy, it seems he still argues that people just do not grasp what he was attempting to convey. Heck, people credit him with "getting rid" of Hogan, but its a lot more like Hogan got rid of himself. It feels like he really is still just trying to validate himself even a decade later.

I loved watching Russo's WCW product on TV, I have to admit. It was pure, unadulterated mayhem at it's finest. I loved the crazy characters, the shameless fourth wall breaking, and the general unpredictable nature of the whole product at the time. I was hooked....
...but the TV did absolutely nothing to make me want to spend money on the PPVs(or even want to spend 3 bucks to rent them if the video store had them in), tickets to live show, or even buy a t-shirt. For that, I would have to cast my vote for him as a bad booker.

Russo seemed to have some great ideas. But having an idea is only the start, you need to form a conclusion. It seemed like everytime WCW had a good idea they screwed it up within a couple of weeks, sometimes angles just disappeared and it looked like they gave up on them. You can point to a lot of good starts to angles, fueds and characters but more often than not MUCH more often than not the second act didn't live up to the first and they didnt seem to have any plan for the future.
Second big problem with Russo is "Everything you watch on TV is scripted EXCEPT THIS EXACT MOMENT" on-line fans were too smart to fall for it and the casual fans didnt get it.

I can't completely hate the guy because for all his faults, he did have some good ideas. plus, he put Hogan in his place, which is something no booker before or since has ever been able to do. Yes, insulting one of the biggest draws of all time while he's done nothing of note in the business is awesome.

I read everywhere that Vince Russo is not a good booker or writer. People say he struggles to write a good middle and ending to feuds and story lines and he gets a lot of hate for bad ideas and story telling. I completely disagree with that and have a theory. The problem with Russo's booking isn't that he's a bad booker, writer or anything like that it's just that he rushes his good ideas and I think that's where the hate comes from. This really doesn't refute the idea that Russo's a bad writer. It doesn't matter if you have great ideas. If you have good ideas and can't implement them with enough patience or discipline to execute them properly then you're a bad writer.
