Who cheers/boos wrestlers as if they were sports teams?
What I mean is: you're at a live event, your favorite wrestler(s) comes out, you cheer them regardless of their alignment because you're so emotionally invested in their character that you'll always look at their predicament from their point of view and can justify any deed they do (good or bad).
For example: the New York Yankees, LA Lakers, Dallas Cowboys etc. are the most hated teams in sports, but those teams have die-hard fans as well who always look at the actions of those organizations from point of view of the team. Thus can justify actions that from a non-fan's perspective would view unfavorably. Rather it be free-agency tactics, questionable plays, perceived league favoritism, level of media coverage etc.
You see, that's how I've always viewed wrestlers. I remember the first occurrence for me of that was when I was a kid during the "Megapowers explode" saga. See, Macho Man was my guy and when that went down, I sided with Savage because I looked at the events from his point of view and could justify all the questionable stuff he did as a result. The same thing happened with Bret Hart during that "Hero in Canada/Villain in US" phase. Even with me being from the US, I still cheered for Bret, because I was his fan and I thought he was every bit justified to be angry at US fans and WWF organization for how they treated him.
And on the flip side I boo wrestlers the same way. I root against Hogan for the same reason I root against the Patriots: despite being first class people/organizations they beat my favorite team/wrestlers over and over in the past. No matter how much objectively they do things "the right way" I always cast them as them villain from my perspective due to past history and my allegiance to my guy/team.
Does anyone else have a similar view?
