Ok so I was at WrestleMania last night and am currently watching a replay of the show. I'm also reading a bunch of people talk about certain parts of the show and how the crowd reacted and I'm at least partially confused and have now realized that the crowd sounded NOTHING like it did on tv.
For one, we were a lot louder in certain spots. The Shield's entrance got a pop but I hear nothing when watching it now. I see people saying no one cared about Cena vs Rock which isn't true at all. It took a little for everyone to get into it, mostly because everyone was exhausted from the last two matches, but we were into it.
That's another thing. I can tell that the Lesnar/HHH match would have gotten a better reaction had we had a break between that and Undertaker's match so all those reports about "people not buying into the stipulation" is a load of shit.

Yeah, I was there live too. The only match that the crowd was CLEARLY dead for was Hunter/Lesnar, and that's most likely due to having to immediately follow Punk/Taker.

But what about Alberto Del Rio?

Same thing happened when I went to WrestleMania 27. We were so loud I could've even hear myself screaming (especially during Taker/HHH) but it just didn't transfer. It's the whole stadium thing... I wonder if they could do something about it by placing more mics or something like that.

But what about Alberto Del Rio? Del Rio actually got a nice face pop when his music hit, which was a pleasant surprise. The match itself not much for but that was mostly because I think everyone was disappointed with certain earlier results and was expecting more.

Lesnar/Trips was paced poorly with too much heavy selling by Trips which people didn't care about AND too much of the action was on the outside of the ring, so I don't really blame the crowd for not being super into that like they were for Punk.
That said, I thought the crowd sounded okay on my TV. It's an outdoor stadium with 80,000 fans and limited places WWE can put effective audio mics to pick them up and mix them well so it's never going to sound like a much more simple to manage (audio wise) packed stadium in Chicago.

Sounds to me like they need to invest in a metric ton of crowd mics.

Sounds to me like they need to invest in a metric ton of crowd mics. It's not that simple. Open-air stadiums all around the world suffer from it: Manchester United (one of Englands biggest football team) still struggle with it now (http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/22040957). WWE are relatively new (in this era) to stadiums and they only run open-air stadium shows once a year so it would be quite the feat for them to get the audio perfect. On top of that their arena set up is so unique that other users of that arena (such as the NY Giants as Met Life) can't help them with audio management as its a different system to what they run. Its not a tough choice for WWE however: You can either have the amazing visuals and huge live-gate takings of a big stadium with the audio problems or a much lower arena live-gate and fantastic audio.

Damn I was just going to mention that Man Utd story, sometimes you can't even the crowd when you're there let alone on TV.
I also suspect WWE want to minimise random shouts getting through to TV, it wouldn't surprise me if they were turned down at times. Although saying that some cries of "retire him Brock" came through loud and clear multiple times so maybe not.

What's funny is that this was touched on in the WM thread, but then a few matches later people were talking about how little the crowd cared.

I see people saying no one cared about Cena vs Rock which isn't true at all. It took a little for everyone to get into it, mostly because everyone was exhausted from the last two matches, but we were into it. Yeah,I was there too and the crowd was crazy into it from start to finish. The match easily had the loudest reactions of the night. I also don't understand why people are criticizing the "finisher fest." The people were going nuts for that. The crowd wasn't dead for the pre-show match either. There was even a loud "Lets go Barrett! Lets go Miz!" chant on my side of the stadium. The crowd didn't react much for the World Heavyweight Championship match but Swagger was booed loudly and Del Rio was heavily cheered during the entrances. During the match, Del Rio was still getting cheers every time he hit a signature move. Y2J got one of the loudest pops of the night. Triple H was also cheered loudly at the end of his match with many people clapping. Cena probably had the loudest reaction of the night but it was all boos. Edited to add more. Sheamus was booed, as was Big Show but Orton was loudly cheered so it would have been a bad time to have him turn heel.

I just got home from the drive but i probably won't get a chance to watch the show back until tomorrow but yes. The sheild got a nice pop. There was a huge let's go ambrose chant. Mark henry/ryback got boring chants as did hhh/lesnar. Cena of course was just MASSIVELY booed. Rock got booed when he hugged Cena and yes haters Del Rio got a pop. Crowd was nuclear hot and split for the taker/punk match with a this is awesome chant breaking out.

Oh i forgot about the pre-show my section and the two beside me booed the shiz out the miz ha ha that rhymed. That's what had me thinking at first like oh boy here we go with the faces get booed and heels get cheered crowd. Fandango got a nice chant after he hit Jericho with that nice little kick.

Watching on my laptop, I remember hearing the Ambrose chant pretty clearly and it got quite loud when Orton was firing up the crowd.

Thank you, FAN, for always assuring me that Del Rio DOES get reactions and actually has better reactions now ever since he turned face. ^_^ It looks like they're going to be in a dome this time for WM30 so no more open-air stadiums for now.
