I was thinking about the hometown one a lot today. I'm so sick of hearing commercials, tv shows, etc with people speaking with "Boston" accents. Most of the people I know that speak like that do it to entertain tourists.
I'm from a fairly wealthy part of town and most people around here seem to think we're all like the bad "country club" guys from 80s comedies. We're not, but sometimes I actually enjoy playing to the stereotype. It's fun to play the heel to people who are judging you for no reason.

I live in Sudbury, Ontario and the stereotypes of everyone here being a willfully ignorant red-neck are largely true, and the people of the town have no-one else to blame for that conception.

Minnesota nice. Oh, it's hilarious. We're not nice. We're passive-aggressive. We'll smile when you're looking at us, but you turn your back...

I don't know if we have a stereotype yet, but Murfreesboro TN currently has a bad reputation because of an issue that made national news. I hate that a small group of people make all of us look really bad (or really good, depending on your stance of the situation) in the eyes of the rest of the country.

People love to hype "Hoosier Hospitality".
But... we're one of the nation's more backward states. You can't buy liquor on Sundays, and we are deathly afraid of "radical" ideas like mass transit or improving sewer systems, all thanks to not understanding how muddy the White River was 160 years ago.
Also, because I have Asperger's, some people treat me like I'm a seven-year old. I remember two years ago, I was looking at the paper in a Walgreen's, and some worker there was asking me how I felt about Butler losing like I thought the world of them... and I was like, "What the hell are you talking about?".

I don't talk much with others unless I know you well enough to share my life's experiences. Some people (some of my in-laws, for example) automatically equate "not talkative" with "stupid" or "creepy".

I'm from El Paso but live in San Antonio.
El Paso: -Dirty Mexicans -Everyone either talks with a Spanish or a cowboy accent -Dirt poor when, in actuality, it has a good economy -Dangerous, due to proximity to Juarez (in actuality, El Paso is the safest large city in the US)
San Antonio: -Dirty Mexicans -The cowboy culture rules here, when it really doesn't -We all call is 'San Antone' (we don't; in fact, we HATE this name. most locals refer to it as 'SA') -No other cultural influences aside from Mexican (we're a melting pot for tons of cultures, such as German, Belgian, Czech, Spanish) -Fat women (well...this one I can't argue against too much, but we're not ALL fat).

The first thought that came to my head ,was the situation with The Mosque there, that is all that I know about your town. The one thing that really annoys me about people, is that everyone thinks that all people who live in Long Island have lots of money, there are some very expensive areas, but also some very ghetto places.

I'm from Scotland. If you believe the stereotypes we all wear kilts, play the bagpipes, have ginger hair, are very cheap, and are usually drunk.
OK so I have a ginger beard... and I'm ridiculously cheap... and I am fond of a bevvy... maybe I'm not the best person to judge as your typical Scotsman.

Sydney Australia, is pretty much suburban hell. The exact opposite of what it is shown to be on TV. Blacktown where I grew up is a bit on the trailer park side. Look up "Blacktown Girls" on youtube.
Is anyone surprised that I didn't want a gf till I was an adult?

Dirty rednecks who are rig pig's with more money then brains and are coked out white trash millionaires that would fail if they lived anywhere else other then Alberta. That's pretty much Alberta's stereotype.
I honestly don't mind the stereotype and it amuses me when someone tries to insult a Albertan by saying go back to your 4X4 pickup truck. Like if there is anything wrong with owning a truck.
Edit: Oh and all of our hotchicks are gold diggers whose career goals is to become a Trophy Wife addicted to coke and oxycontin and viadicon and booze who will cheat on you while you are working a long shift at work or working away from home.

That it's the most dangerous, crime-ridden ghetto on the face of the planet.
It's not, by the way.

Hemsworth, Yorkshire. Known for having a "water park" that is in fact, just a park with water in it.
Also the nearby Wakefield is known as Emo Central, UK, which is perfectly fine as someone who basically cosplays Eric Draven once a week.

Good one. I hated that the folks around me wore that as a badge of honor and thought it was something to be proud of. It's gotten to the point where a murder is barely news anymore unless it involves school age children. It's almost considered a basic hazard of living here. Sad.

Chi-town's murder rate is higher than Detroit? It fluctuates. We've been number one during several years, others we're lower. Pretty much always in the top ten though. Hell, one year "Scary" Gary Indiana led the nation in murder rate. Gary's a ~20 min drive out from here.

Barnsley's full of racists and chavs, apparantly. I live in a nice area, though.
