Seventy five years ago today, the creation of two teenagers from Cleavland, Ohio hit news stands. Since that day, the character has been seen in books, movies, television and is considered a cultural icon, behind only Mickey Mouse. Though his popularity has been eclipsed in recent years by other characters for varying reasons, he laid the foundation for all that was to come, even coining the word 'superhero'.
Today is the 75th birthday for Superman. Keep on flying, big blue, and congratulations.

I wonder what they spent that $130 on? Lawyers fees' when they saw how much money DC was making off the merchandising rights to Superman, I would guess.

Are We Talking Action Comics #1? Because that was in June of '38 The cover date is the pull off news stands date, it was sent to the stands today. Court records from the 1940s over Wonder Man and if he ripped off Supes give today as the date.

I wonder what they spent that $130 on? Based on my knowledge of the 1930's I'd guess cigarettes and hats.

What are we all getting Superman for his 75th birthday? I'm thinking of getting him 75 cakes. I just hope Lex Luthor doesn't steal them. That would be terrible.

After all, what else do you get for the man who has everything? The restoration in comic continuity of his marriage to Lois Lane. Like Spider-Man's marriage, that should have never been taken away. But at least Superman didn't make a deal with the devil that cost him his marriage. Even as a not-that-big a comic reader that makes me mad. But still, back to Superman: another thing we can get him, even if it may be late, is good reviews and box office returns for "Man of Steel" when it hits theaters.

How about comic continuity that doesn't reboot ever so often? Barring that, Superman's so humble all he'd want is the heartfelt Thank-Yous from the people he's saved and millions (& millions!) of fans worldwide.

Superman's birthday is April 18 and Cena's is April 23. That's a little too convenient!

Coincidentally, a local reporter by the name of Clark Kent is also turning 75. Of course that is completely unrelated to Superman. Sorry for changing the topic.

Happy Birthday Lana Lang. But Lana wasn't in the first Action Comics issue, I don't think... Smallville says she was there from the beginning and who am I to deny anything Kristin Kreuk wants. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)
