Chael just by looking at this thread is successful in what he tries to do. Creating buzz and have people tune in. He's the ultimate (no pun) bad guy in a real sport, just by opening his mouth he gets people invested in the PPV.
That being said, I wouldn't rule him out so easily. The man had an uphill battle his whole life. Just look how much he accomplished after surviving mean streets of West Linn. Sonnen by TKO.

Has anyone noticed how little Jones is promoting this fight? I seriously think he really isn't remotely interested in fighting Sonnen. I wonder if there's still unresolved issues between Bones and the UFC after last year's PPV cancellation scandal. That's the reason why I think Chael has a chance in this fight due to how little interest and motivation Jones has coming into it. It's entirely possible that Jones sleepwalks into that cage and allows Chael to take him down for five straight rounds. It's doubtful that will happen (at least for more than a round) but it is possible. I think the reason Jones has done little to help promote the fight, is he doesn't like the reasoning for it and having the match in the first place. The original "call out" was a trap fight for Jones, in that he looked bad for not taking the match on short notice(which was smart, because only Sonnen had something to gain from that)and basically Dana chimed in and gave Sonnen a "thank you" title shot for helping make Dana so much money in the Silva rematch. Let's face the facts, there are much more deserving title contenders in the LHW division than Sonnen and we all know that. I am sure Jones feels the same way and you have to respect a Champion that doesn't think someone should get a title shot for running his mouth and buddying up with the promoter. Man, this really sounds like professional wrestling now. Anyways, I seriously doubt Jones is just not training hard, because he doesn't agree with the reasoning for the match. Trust me, he will win this fight and probably easily. He didn't take the original match, because Sonnen has proven he can do well with short notice and Jones had no time to prepare for the match. I am sure Jones is taking this match very seriously as far as training is concerned. While Sonnen IMO(and most)is certainly not the true #1 contender, he is a well conditioned athlete and should be taken seriously. The thing about this match is I don't see where Sonnen wins. With Silva he succeeded in the ground game, but Jones is probably an even better wrestler than Sonnen. Considering Jones huge reach advantage, Sonnen would probably be better off using the clinch, once again though, Jones is very good in the clinch. The only thing I am interested to see in this match is if Jones "plays along" and maybe sees what Sonnen can do in the first round before taking him out. However, considering everything that happened leading to the match and how Jones was forced into a match he didn't care for, I could see him making a quick work. This will answer my question of whether Jones was "playing along" in the build up for the match or truely doesn't believe in it.
