As I mentioned before I'm the manager of a video store (yes these places still do exist outside America)and today some arsehole walked into got all verbally abusive at one of my underlings because of his own stupidity.
What happened was yesterday was the guy's 13 year old son tried to rent out Mortal Kombat 9 which is rated R18 in New Zealand and is the highest restriction any game or movie can given in this country. She said no so the kid got his father who was pissed that she wouldn't rent out it and was annoyed that he had to waste his time coming in to rent it out. She said "you do realize its R18 so I can't let him rent it out without breaking the law plus its not a kids game". The guy was said I don't care just rent out to me so I can get out of here so she did.
However this morning he came back in all angry saying this was game was disgusting and how could she allow him to rent out for his children. He started to yell at her saying that he will get her fired etc and asked for the manager so I came in to calm the prick down. He demanded a refund which I refused as the game worked perfectly fine but I was willing to give him another game to rent for the remaining rental time. He said no and walked out of store saying you have just lost a customer.
Now what annoys me is how this is a disturbingly common occurrence as we get plenty of morons renting out restricted games for their kids even though they are told they are not kids games only for them to return in a huff later pissed off they we rented the games even though we bloody told them in the first place its not for kids. I mean they should know how the rating systems works because the same ratings that are used for films are also used for DVDS but goddam its enough to make bang my head against a wall.
Another thing which is pisses me off is how usually these sorts of arseholes are pussies who will only get abusive to female staff or the smaller male/teen ones because the co worker who he got all abusive at is 5 foot 2 but when he saw me he did a total 180 in attitude and and when left he pretty much mumbled what a c*nt I was underneath his breath.
Its a good thing that I'm currently dosed up to the eye balls on antidepressants because sometimes I wonder if I might just tell people like this to go f*** themselves with a very sharp stick.

These kind of people think video games are still kids toys, and that all video games are meant for kids, so they are always in for a rude awakening when little Johnny is playing a game where he can rip someone's spine out of their mouth, use it as a jump rope, and then shove it up their bum and parade them around like a stick puppet.

Yeah and thats another thing which is sheer amount of clueless parents who have told me that they think that games like Gears of War,GTA 4 and Halo are marketed towards children so they should banned. f***ing idiots.

The funny thing is, of those three specific games, Halo is actually the most kid friendly, what with the colorful blood of the Covenant, and the violence isn't over the top really. I think the most violence I've seen from the Halo series(note I haven't played Halo 4) is the stealth melee executions from Reach, which really only amount to stabbing people in the head with a knife and things like that. Hell the headshots in the Halo games are amongst the tamest in all gaming, especially compared to Gears.

Okay, even my parents know about Mortal Kombat and its reputation. Also, it's f'n called Mortal Kombat. How is anyone surprised to find out there's gore in it?
Good work on defending your employee Wolf. I think you showed an exemplary attitude when faced with the kind of moronic client who complains that she did something she didn't want to do and THEN complains for doing what he asked her to do despite her warnings.
I think you should just place a huge sign that reads something like "please check the age restrictions on video games you rent for your children. The store is not responsible for any inappropriate imagery they may see as a result of your purchase".

Well there is a poster right in front of counter which explains that video games that are rated with restricted ratings are not suitable for children under those ages. But yeah it was no way in hell her fault so f***ed if I was going give that twat a refund its a pity that there are plently people like that who seem to think that anyone serving behind a counter is fair game for abuse.

I deal with people who are not the brightest bunch all day and this is just pushing carts, Thursday I get a call to the bottle room and I go over and see what's wrong this lady tried to recycle a metal can in the plastic machine I told her she couldn't do that it had to go in the can machine. Ten minutes later same lady calls me over and I go over and she did the same thing in both plastic machines I than explained to her cans go in the can machine. I thought I was done nope five minutes later she calls me over this time she tried recycling a dog food can in the can machine I told her she can't do that so she asked for my manager who I happily called and than I went on break

Strange thing is, Mega Bloks actually makes Halo sets so I could kinda understand the confusion on that one.

If you have a kid that's 13 how old does that make you? At least young enough to not think all video games are like pong and pacman, right?

Seems like your staff had covered your backs by making him fully aware of the situation so his attempt to get some money out of you was in vain. Good job all round from you and your team.

that's a pretty typical story for the video rental industry. I used to put up with the same BS when i worked at Blockbuster. difference is, here the guy would call head office, they'd turtle, act like it was somehow our fault and give the guy whatever he wanted. that's one of the reasons they're out of business now. I gotta say, nothing was funnier than when we were closing the store and people would get huffy and try to argue with us about late fees and tried using the "well I'm never coming here again" argument as if anyone in the store cared. that kind of argument only matters to whoever owns the store, not the guys who work there, and he usually doesn't want your business at that point anyway.

You should consider yourself lucky that dumb ass won't shop at your store anymore. Exactly, I always think it's funny when completely unreasonable customers make that "threat", in my opinion it's usually a favor. I work in a resteraunt and you just can't please some people, considering we do good business, I don't ever think it's a loss to lose one unreasonable customer when they just aren't worth the hastle(unless they actually spend alot of money regularly at your business).

Late Fees dodgers are another thing which royally f***s me off. I remember a couple of years ago the owners got me to get a debt collection agency on people with large outstanding amounts of late fees and this one tosser who's daughter owed about $60 of them came in the saying that he was a lawyer and warned us that he would get the store closed down if I tried to get his daughter to pay up. But the women behind him was a graduate law student and she told me what to do in order to get that cheep bastard to pay up.

Well over here if they don't pay up they will pretty much get a black mark against their credit rating for a good three to five years. But yeah I always do laugh about the whole I've never coming here again bullshit like any of us care.
