How in the f*** was that a reasonable stoppage? I mean, please pardon if I'm wrong but Sonnen was still very much protecting himself to the point that the elbow from the top at the end hit his guard. Also, why is illegal to throw a kick against a seated opponent but a knee is just fine? It's basically the same thing.

Chael Sonnen can now fade into the sunset to never be seen again...sigh, who am I kidding? Someone tell Mighty Mouse to get ready. They'll probably do a catchweight title fight next. Sonnen vs. Velazquez I'm not Sonnen's biggest fan, but even that is sadistic.

And the reason it's a reasonable stoppage is because the elbows were getting through and cutting him open. If there's no stoppage, something on his face is either torn or broken. And no, anyone who's trained mma knows that knees and kicks aren't the same.

One thing that fight showed is that if UFC ever does one of Dana's superfights, the advantage will always be with the bigger weight class. Jones would throw Anderson around and Anderson would throw GSP around.

Chael will probably just settle back into his UFC Tonight and Fox analyst desk jobs. At least that's one thing he's okay at.

If anyone can talk himself into one more big fight, it's Chael.
I guess Jones being hurt will give the Lt. Heavyweight Division plenty of time to sort out his next challenger, which I hope isn't the Karate Kid Machida. The last thing I want to see is him backing up and dry humping in the ring again.

To those who question the stoppage, if you wanted to see your guy Chael eat food through a straw for the next few months then I'm right there with ya. Rule #1 of refereeing the UFC, protect the fighters, even from themselves. It might have been a tad early, but the result wouldn't have changed at all. Turtle Guard doesn't equal defense.

I don't think it'll be Machida. They might if there's nothing else but after nearly killing him the last time, I don't think that fight will be made anytime soon.

As someone who has been both kicked and kneed in the chest and stomach region, and don't fool yourself that knee was sternum level, I would rather be kicked because it hurts a hell of a lot less than catching the point of the knee. Could you maybe tone down the condescension when you respond to me in the future?

Could you maybe tone down the condescension when you respond to me in the future? I was just saying that there's something about the physics that makes kicks to the sternum and knees that makes things different in an MMA setting. At least to me and my experience training. I wasn't trying to be condescending. I was just giving my personal experience on the subject.

I just want to quote this which was said earlier in the night after the two straight technical decisions. Calling it now: Sonnen via stubbed toe. We were 27 seconds away from that happening.

Meltzer confirms Chael would have won if he had survived the round since Jones wouldn't have been cleared to continue.

Sigh... yep, pretty much. Dana loves this guy, he will find something for him to do. This match was one too many anyways, should have walked away after the Silva match with some dignity left(yeah he lost, but this match was much more embarrassing). I just love the post match interview from Sonnen, he finally realized what everyone else already knew. I said it all along, my only problem with this match was Sonnen had no business getting a title shot, and this fight proved it. Atleast with the Silva re-match he earned it.

UGHHHHHHH they just showed the break, holy moly that was nasty. I hope he can make a pretty quick recovery although he'll probably be out for a year with that. And yeah, that was really nasty.
