Between years 1999-2002, six women began what would become very accomplished careers in wrestling. Three of them would become stars and respected workers for major mainstream wrestling companies. The other 3 would achieve both national and international acclaim working for much smaller promotions all around the world. The former were Mickie James, Melina, and Gail Kim, the latter being Cheerleader Melissa, Mercedes Martinez, and Sara Del Rey.
But what if there was a role reversal of their paths. What if in the early 2000's Melissa, Mercedes, and Sara were signed to the WWE and groomed as wrestlers in WWE's development system? And what if Mickie, Melina, and Gail were never signed and continued their careers on the independent wrestling scene and developing as performers with the same freedom and opportunities that comes with that?
How do you think each group would've developed as performers? Would each group have an equal amount of success in their reversed roles? Would fans' perception of each group's ability as performers change? And finally, would the state of women's wrestling as a whole be different?

Sara Del Rey would've been the one to be the most memorable (much like Mickie) Mercedes would've become a lot like Melina (aka loved and despised) and Melissa would've ended up like Gail Kim (considered overrated and a whiner)
Mickie, Melina and Gail would've gotten the 'oh the WWE should sign her' treatment because they are better than 'Sara, Mercedes and Melissa' (Basically the reverse of what occurred)
And Women's Wrestling in the WWE would still be the way it is.

That kinda echos what I thoughts as well. I know that Mercedes would look drastically different from what she looks today considering WWE's aesthetic standards. She'd be just a trim as she currently but with a lot less tattoos and piercings. Sara probably would have gotten Beth Phoenix's character before Beth would be called up to the roster. Melissa I think would've gotten the biggest push, considering her looks and that she's 2nd generation wrestler. Mickie would've likely still be wrestling for Shimmer currently, Gail probably would have gotten the most tours in Japan, and I could see Melina following the same path as Mercedes in Shimmer and WSU (apparently before she got signed to WWE, Melina and Alison Danger were good friends before they lost touch).
