So, I've always known who Muse was, but never paid them too much mind. Anything I heard just didn't sound like it'd be my cup of tea, but all of a sudden along comes "Madness", and my God, I'm hooked on this sound. For the past few months I've been looking for bands that blend electronic elements into Rock in a way that sounds completely fresh and new, and it turns out that a great example of that was, seemingly, right in front of my face this whole time.
I know some hardcore Muse fans don't like their newest record, so I'm hoping this isn't too much of a departure from their old sound and there's more songs like this throughout their catalog, because it's a seriously cool sound.
So, FAN, what's your opinion on this song? I absolutely adore it.

Not one of Muse's better songs, but hey, it got them a gig at the NCAAs...

I like it too. I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore Muse fan though. A few years back I saw them in concert because I liked a few of their singles but that concert blew me away. Great show that, IMO, has only been topped by AC/DC and Metallica as far as concerts I've been to.

I've been into Muse for years and am a huge fan of their older stuff, so I don't particularly care for Madness. It's not a bad song itself, but I just expect different from them. It's popular and they're getting a ton of money from it though, so hey, whatever.

I like it. Took me a time to get into the song because obviously it's a little bit different from their other stuff but I really like it now. The song really builds towards the finish which is spectacular imo.
The album as a whole was ok but quite a bit of filler on it (Explorers and Save Me should have been shaved off, Panic Station is incredibly annoying). Madness is probably the best song on it to be honest. Though I do have a soft spot for Liquid State. Nice riff on that one.

I never liked their "old" sound anyway, so this is a distinct improvement. They're a bit behind the times though, loads of European and European-influenced bands have been doing it better for years.

Good, but not their best.

I never could get into previous Muse stuff; not because it wasn't good, I just couldn't find any stylistic similarities between any of the songs that made me go "hey, that's a Muse song". I finally find one (Madness) I like and now no one else likes it.
I think it's kinda neat, the way the first half of it has a very Prince flavor (if Prince had dabbled more in electronica) then morphing into a very U2-ish crescendo.

Was going to pick this song for FAN Idol, lol. The beginning of it reminded me of Prince in style. I'll post the vid I would have used here when I get to a computer.I'm not going to now though, because now I know, and I dont wanna "cheat" with you being a judge and all. Edit: I'll send you the link, Orange.

I'm a big Muse fan. At first I was like meh to the song. But it's been growing into me more and more after each listen.

i dug it at first, and then my mom bought the album, but apparently this is the only song on it *eye roll*. its on the radio, and i hear it at work, easily 8 times a day, so i'm kind of over this song.

Ive liked music since probably 2005 (Absolution was the first cd I got from them) And I must say, the 2nd law may be my favorite, especially to run to, its so energetic, and they put great effort to the songs imo. And yet my least favorite album from them was the resistance. Also they just released their video for panic station, and I just like the whackiness lol.

My problem with muse is that I loved origin of symmetry so much back in the day that everything after it felt like a huge dissapointment. But it might be more an issue with me not giving their other material a fair chance
I recommend the following to op :

I bought the album today on iTunes, the song is awesome, as are most of the others on it. I also have The Resistance album, it's different from this most recent one, but I like both albums the same.
