With the only women's title in the WWE right now being a singles title, this push only makes sense if they're either going to break up, or they're going to have a Women's Tag Team title.
And a women's tag team title worked great for TNA.
Right, Eric?

If you're speaking in non-kayfabe terms, the Bellas were never fired. They chose not to renew their contracts. Here's an article on it.Alright, so they didn't renew. Why didn't they renew? Why did they get brought back and suddenly get this attention? Obviously, there's no way to answer that first question, but the second one, I think, has a very distinct answer. Yes. What's bad about wanting to be on the road with the guys they're dating? Also, if you read the article, it says management was hoping to keep them around even then. WWE always used them for press and events. You can dislike them, but it's a bit disingenuous to suggest that they're only being highlighted because of Nikki's relationship with Cena. They were often featured in some way.

Didn't Mickie only lose the title back to McCool because she got injured? Yep, she had the major Staph Infection, which kept her off of tv till April. They were obviously building to Mickie vs Michelle vs Beth at Mania, but Mickie's injury put an end to that. It was reported that she had to beg to be put in the 10 Diva tag at Mania, due to the injury.

Actually, no it doesn't. That site, which got the entire story from Meltzer, is what claims the "shock" but Meltzer, who reported it, did not say that. Here's what he said, in the full story: If we want to go by what Meltzer had to say, then it would imply that management was not really set on keeping them and didn't seem to mind that they weren't resigning.

A case of news sites not making up their mind, then. I'd have to look for it, but there were other reports that Nikki was given the title in an effort to get her to resign.
Either way, the point the twins were always featured is not a controversial one. There's that random feud with Gail. The crush on Alberto. It's not just Cena pulling for his latest squeeze - the writers have consistently worked them into stories.

I always just assumed Nikki got a title run so that both Bellas could have one before they left.

How do you take "WWE did not confirm anything" to mean that they didn't want to keep them? The Bellas said from the start they were taking time off to recover their bodies and relax, and that they would be coming back. And guess what, they came back, so obviously WWE were more than happy to have them. I'm sure the office was very aware of their plans.

A lot of wrestlers say they're coming back and they don't. It's not really unusual for someone to say that and not show up again.

I wasn't interested in their passion. Only why they're back and getting so much hype in spite of being worth so little. Do you see how this can go on all day? We have no way of proving this either way but I don't see what's unreasonable to have suspicion that relationships factor into it. Pretending that relationships are the only reason they get brought back would be foolish. Almost nothing has a single, isolated cause. But I think it factored in. And I don't see what's sexist about that when in the past in WWE, relationships have shown on more than one occasion to be closely correlated to how someone was getting pushed.

I'm kinda doubting she will get that comeuppance. Sure she will. People forget the payoff for Piggie James was a squash match where Mickie owned Michelle McCool and won the Divas title. I'm just surprised no one is calling AJ "Skeletor" or "McRib" like they did for McCool. Clearly because AJ is nowhere near as thin as McCool was back then. Or because she sticks her butt out all the time, hard to say.

Exactly. And the fact that they did come back shows a) that WWE wanted them and b) they are passionate about wrestling! Of course WWE wanted them. Look who they're shacked up with! Aside from the Bella twins, WWE also supposedly sent feelers out to Kelly Kelly and Maria Kanellis. So I doubt it has anything to do with "who they're shacked up with". If anything, I think WWE lost all faith in it's current Divas roster after that disastrous Vegas Showgirls Lumberjills match (after which there weren't any Diva matches on RAW for like a month or two, which is almost unprecedented in modern WWE history). Maria confirmed that they made her an offer, but later took it off the table because they decided not to use the particular storyline they had in mind for her (it's rumored that they actually rescinded the contract offer because of heat between Maria and the Bella twins).

Acccording to Meltzer, the idea WWE had in mind when contacting Maria and Kelly (as well as Maryse) was for a tag match at WrestleMania where a team of current Divas led by Kaitlyn would have faced a team of former Divas, and Trish Stratus would have been in the corner one of the teams. I believe the match not happening not only may have something to with Maria and the Bellas but also with Kelly and Maryse not being interested. In addition, Kelly apparently asked to be allowed the right to use her WWE name, and WWE didn't want to do that.
