I think this would be a splendid idea to re-introduce RVD to WWE TV.
His martial arts style would dovetail well with the martial law aspect of The Shield. I can totally see RVD in combat attire doing his thing with some minor but important changes.
It would give Van Dam some much-needed freshening up as long as he can ditch the double thumb finger-pointing, which would highlight him as an individual, not the group he would hypothetically be a part of.
RVD might still get cheered, but I think he would, overall, flourish as a heel and mentor (not necessarily leader) of the faction.
Can you imagine Van Dam, Ambrose, Romans and Reigns ambushing some guys and then showing off to the crowd with the kind of bow-to-the-audience panache that RVD was known for in ECW?
It would be awesome.

I personally think it should be Tommy Dreamer instead. So that everytime there's a SHIELD beatdown on someone, Dreamer can run in the ring at the end and just burst into tears all over the place. Then the others would just leave without any explanation whatsoever while Dreamer cried until the show went to commercial.

This would suck so bad.
RVD should stay far far far far far far far far away from something this good.

Personally I reckon they shouldn't be adding any past their prime potheads and just keep the SHIELD at 3 members.

That would be shit.
I'm fine with RVD coming back. Hell, I'd even be fine with him winning the WHC. But leave The Shield alone.

RVD was horrible and uninspired throughout his TNA run. The guy is just old and broken down. He sucks now.
He needs to stay far away from the Shield. Very f***ing far away! The Shield are a great, talented, and promising young team. He wouldn't fit in. This isn't 1998 anymore, or even 2001 when RVD was halfway decent (if over-rated).
I don't even want to see him back in WWE at all, much less muddying up a great stable.
Sorry for the rant, but I'm not an RVD fan to say the least...

I agree that RVD is past his prime, but I wouldn't argue that he was over rated from 98-01. Dude was the man

No. The Shield doesn't need another member, least of all RVD.

I don't think the Shield needs a fourth member.
They are a dominant 3 man group who have 3 distinct performers who all have every base covered on what a group needs between them.
Look at what happened when Legacy tried to add a fourth member

We need a new motto in here regarding the Shield, because it seems to get repeated every single day.
NO LEADER. NO NEW MEMBERS.

Why would you make a stable that's designed to get three young guys over all about an aging guy with mediocre mic skills who has shown in the past that he can't be trusted to keep his habits in check when receiving a major push? If you ignore that, there is no upside for a heel faction having a guy that the fans won't accept as a heel, that doesn't have the acting ability to make it work. RVD was horrible and uninspired throughout his TNA run. The guy is just old and broken down. He sucks now. He needs to stay far away from the Shield. Very f***ing far away! He's in far better shape than Sting or Kurt Angle, however, you seldom feel like they're just going through the motions, RVD on the other hand didn't seem to want to put in any real effort unless he was in the main event or wrestling one of his friends.

Don't forget RVD is a big mark for himself, just look at his rockstar rant, when people were talking about how they didn't like RVD running over the originals and the way he ended AJ's title reign. Adding RVD to The Shield would destroy them. They're 3 young guys that have victories over teams consisting of Cena, Ryback, Sheamus, Taker, Jericho, D-Bry, and Kane. They beat the shit out of The Rock, and took out Taker. They don't need RVD at all, he'd only hurt the faction.

I don't want to see the Whole Half Assing Show in a WWE ring. I definitely don't want to see him attached to the Shield. I take it the the OP didn't watch RVD's TNA run. If he did, he probably wouldn't be asking for RVD to return.

He phoned it in through his TNA run, even when he was winning titles and being involved in the main storylines in the company. I enjoyed him when he was in WWE, but he is not that guy anymore. The Shield is getting over on their own, RVD would add nothing at all.

Seems like a good fit.... one 'overrated guy' being associated with the latest fad featuring some overrated guys... it makes as much sense as combining peanut butter and chocolate

RVD return one night only for a old school Raw, would be ok . not anything full time, I dont think he has much to give to the current product. The Shield should remain a dominant trio, without any leader , fourth member or higher power.
