So, I'm listening to Pandora, and fun.'s "Some Nights" just came on. Great song and great band, but there's one part I hate in it. I'm going to guess most of you know where I'm going with this, as I'm hardly the only one with this opinion.
Right around 4:10, when the music drops and it's just Nate singing... with the accompaniment of some might fine auto tune. I absolutely hate that, as it takes a FANTASTIC song and just makes it awkward and clunky with the way it brings the energy to a screeching halt. It's the only case where I prefer the radio edit to the album version, as the radio edit has the instruments continue along with his vocal line.
Another recent example, funnily enough still including Nate Ruess, is P!nk's "Just Give Me a Reason".
Again, great song, and one of my favorites from P!nk, however there's one part that I really dislike. Right around 2:42, after an incredible build up of intensity and emotion, P!nk brings a close to it with a great high note. However, the part that irritates me is, immediately after her high note that go right back into the chorus. It might sound nitpicky, but I'd much prefer for their to be a 1-2 second break there to let it naturally come back down as opposed to getting right back into the chorus. Personally, I think it would've sounded better if they brought the piano back around in an attempt to let the song come back down to earth, just like they have in the outro, and then go into the chorus. I just think that the song deserves a break after that incredible build up, rather than jumping right back into the selling point.
So, FAN, what are some small things you hate, or dislike, in songs that you love, or like?
