Okay, I've got to ask if this rumor is true..
In 2002, we know the Hulkster was willing to look at the ceiling lights more than usual. However, concluding his '02 run, he jobbed convincingly to Brock Lesnar on free television...in a BEAR HUG.
Was Hogan really under the impression that this was going to set him up to win the title from Lesnar at Survivor Series 2002?

I've heard that Hulk went to vince and wanted to take the title off of brock and Vince just laughed him off.

I'd give a kidney to be a fly in that room, to see the awkward look on Hogan's face as he's being laughed while trying to be serious about it lol

I always respected him for this run, as like a penance for all of hus burying of people in WCW. So if this was done with him under this impression it takes away the meaning for me.

I dunno, for some reason, I almost want to give Hogan the benefit of the doubt for this run. He seemed genuinely moved by his standing ovations after Wrestlemania and again, a few weeks later. I feel this was a few month stretch where he was happy to have a spot on the roster and really wanted to help put over the new generation of guys.

Yeah it was a good run. He seemed to understand and enjoy his role very much until the Mr. America thing happened.

2002 was the most tolerable I ever found the Huckster. Angle making him tap is one of my all time markout moments. The old bastard even got me to smile a few times when he was teaming with Edge.
That's not to say I wanted him in the promotion or anything crazy like that. HHH having to drop the title to Hogan pissed me off to no end.

It was the only time since 1994 that he didn't have creative control over his match outcomes. When he came back for the Michaels and Orton matches, he had creative control again.

Of course, We can't give Hogan kudos for jobbing. It must of been the fact he didn't have the Creative Control card. Of course!

I am pretty sure this is the case. Hogan's 2002-2003 run was the only time since 1994 that he didn't have creative control. He did have creative control when they brought him back for the Michael and Orton programs.

He must of known that there was no way he was going to be "the man" with the amount of young stars they had at the time so probably happily went along for the jobbing.

Even if he did have creative control, who's to say he wouldn't have done things the exact same way?

I guess his AOL/Time Warner checks were running out or were over and Jimmy Hart's XWF wasn't going anywhere, so Hogan didn't have a lot of bargaining power when WWF made the offer to Hogan, Hall, and Nash. Where else was Hogan going to go? Plus, there was a WrestleMania on the horizon and Hogan could smell the money of either a Rock or Austin match. Hogan had a bit more bargaining power when WWE brought him back for the Michaels and Orton feuds.

"Well, Brother, you know the crowd popped big for his entrance against Orton, but they were dead for everyone else, dude!" Hogan said something to that effect.

Even if he did have creative control, who's to say he wouldn't have done things the exact same way? Because he never did again? That contract ended in 2003. He never did another job again after he returned with creative control.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he only did it because he thought he could eventually come back for a rematch and pin Brock. Hogan hated doing jobs, brother!

It would be nice to give Hogan credit for being magnanimous for once but whenever he talks about this time period he kills any thought of that.
