The thread about Dallas Hart inspired this question.
If you were the child or relative of a famous wrestler & were considering persuing a wrestling career would you play up or down the fact yo were realted to a famous wrestler?
There is pros & cons to both sides. If you play up the fact it could open doors for you that might not open otherwise or would take longer to open up. but you will always be compared to your relative.
If you play it down you would be able to rely more on your abilty then your name to get you places.
What would you do if your were in that situation?

Probably depends a lot on whether I wrestle my relative's style.
Like, if I were Bret's son, and I wrestled a strong technical style, I'd play up that I was the son of the technical legend himself. If I were going in a different direction, I'd still mention it, but not make too much about it (since just saying you're so-and-so's kid doesn't hurt when it comes to getting bookings).

You probably wouldn't get much of a choice, as the promotions always seem to push these facts pretty hard.

I'd put on a mask and wrestle in foreign countries to improve myself and when I'd be ready as a wrestler I'd use the famous name to open any door possible.

Depends on the wrestler I'm related to, and my skill level.

Hell yeah I'd use their name to my advantage... It's all about getting your foot in the door, and if using a relative's name to do that is the best way, then by all means I would shout it out loud all the time...

Depends on the wrestler I'm related to, and my skill level. Yeah, that's also very important. What if you're Barry Horowitz jr.?

YOU ALWAYS PLAY IT UP
When the whole purpose of wrestling is to make money
the promoter will always push the fact that you're a Hart/Guerrero/Von Erich or come from a wrestling family

To people who say play it up, remember you are in a lockerroom with about 20 guys trying to bust their asses to get to the top. Promoters will never be able to avoid not pushing a famous 2nd generation star. So here you are, say Dallas Clark for example, and within 2 months you are main eventing. You have some talent, but you are still clearly green. There are then a couple other guys in the same company who have been there about 2-3 years, still busting their asses to get to the top, yet can't get a break. They are pretty talented and are over with the local fans. You think those guys will be happy? Not only that, as you try traveling around, other promoters will instantly promote you although to the boys in the back, you may not deserve it yet.
From a personaly standpoint, yes you should. You get more attention, higher spots on the card and bigger paydays potentially. But remember you won't make many friends that way and other wrestlers will sour on you really quickly unless you play it down.
