UFC has four potential main events for Ronda going forward. Zingano, Holm, Cyborg and Carano. Yes the latter two don't make sense from a pure sports standpoint but UFC is about giving the fans what they want. Cyborg and Carano would be massive shows and Zingano and Holm have the potential to be big shows. Let Rousey v. Carano Semi-Main or Main that New Year's show and I'm set. Hell Zingano-Rousey works for me too. Holm-Rousey needs some selling though.

Cyborg is another main event and massive buy rate. Zingano is a right opponent, but it needs some selling. Zingano is the lesser of the four from a market standpoint right now, but if the UFC can make Carmouche a star, Zingano can be a superstar. She has a great (and tragic) back story now being a widowed single mom.

You learn something new everyday. As someone who follows sports but not necessarily MMA, I just learned the term 'medical suspension' as it relates to MMA. Apparently in MMA, it means a forced leave of absence due to injury. I bring this up because at first glance, it sounds like... a different kind of 'medical' suspension. And because of that, you could say this news headline is misleading: www.mmafighting.com/2014/7/7/5879133/ufc-175-medical-suspensions-weidman-rousey-faber-among-nine-fightersJust to clarify, there is NO mention of failed drug tests in this article. So yeah, am I right to assume that MMA fans could hear the term 'medical suspension' and only think of injury and NOT drug testing? You would be correct. There are often a few medical suspensions after an event and the term always relates to an injury not drug failure. In other news, UFC 174 is the lowest ppv buyrate in nearly a decade, doing somewhere between 95,000 and 115,000 buys. I guess Mighty Mouse won't be main eventing ppvs for a while. www.mmamania.com/2014/7/10/5889255/report-ufc-174-ppv-buys-worst-modern-era-johnson-bagautinov-mmaThis is frustrating to me because I love Mighty Mouse and I find him entertaining in almost all of his fights. The issue is that he has cleaned out most of his division and no one fighter has been able to climb the rankings without either losing to MM or suffering a loss. And Benavidez will have to wait until Johnson is no longer champion to have another shot. Plus there is really no top contender outside of the UFC. The best up and coming guy in my opinion would be Zach Makovsky (was BW Champion in Bellator), but even he needs a couple of more wins. If MM is going to keep facing challengers who are not at his level and are not very marketable, he is not going to draw. I hope the UFC realizes that this is not a MM issue or a small guy issue, it is just simply having a division dominated by one man.

I think Mighty Mouse faces the same problem Rousey does. They are both the best fighters in their divisions, but they have no true viable opponents. Now Rousey can get away with it because she's good at selling herself and she has the personality that makes herself a draw. However like Mighty Mouse, she is just the best fighter in the division and it's a new division and both basically have to wait for the rest of the fighters to evolve before they can get something interesting going.

Speaking of Mighty Mouse, he defends against Chris Cariaso at 177. Co-main of course.

While not set in stone or anything, it seems like Cowboay Cerrone and Kabib Nurmagomedov will be the next big lightweight fight. Cerrone obliterated Jim Miller last night and said before the fight he wanted Kabib next and Kabib tweeted after the fight that he wanted to fight Cerrone and to make it a 5 round fight.

Co-main of 179, maybe (I say 179 because I'd think Cruz's return would co-main 178)?

Well Kabib has said he wants it to be a 5 round fight to test himself and I'm sure Cerrone would be fine with that, so more than likely it will be on a Fight Night.

Just want to add that UFC Fight Night was tremendous last night, some really good fights and brutal finishes.

I dunno if it is that as much though. Silva was in a similar position, where he was pretty much unstoppable, but he was still a pretty huge draw. Not that I'm discounting Mouse and Rousey, they're both still two of my favourite fighters. I think they just need more visibility with the casual crowd. I mean, most people who only had the slightest inkling about MMA would usually know who Silva was, but Mouse and Ronda don't have that same notoriety yet. Ronda might get a boost from The Expendables, but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

Damn. Looks like Kabib Nurmagamedov blew out his knee. Apparently this happened minutes after a deal was reached for him to fight Cerrone.

Who is he, Kevin Nash!? 20 minutes after the fight was agreed and would have happened at UFC 178, he blows out his knee. Not sure who's next for Cerrone now. Nate Diaz was brought up at a scrum and Dana said no way. Maybe if Bendo wins his fight in August and makes it out unscathed?

Dana White also apparently wants to make Weidman vs. Belfot happen in Brazil. IMO that's really stupid after all the hullaballo over Belfort needing to be clean in the US.
