I'm sure we all recall a fair number of "nerd rage" imcidents in our time regarding certain things, and there had to be some that either turned out better in retrospect, held up over time, or just weren't that important in the long run.
Like for example, there was a lot of squawking about "TWILIGHT SPIDERMANZ" after the news broke about the franchise reboot going back to high school, and it wound up being regarded as a more faithful interpretation of the character in some respects than the Raimi series.

The Devil May Cry reboot. I disagree, and so did many people, that's why it sold awful.

Not "nerd rage" per se, but the flak Randy Moss got for "mooning" the fans at Lambeau Field was totally disproportinate to the level of the incident, especially when you learned it was a tradition among some Packers fans to do the real thing at opposing teams' buses.

The 1996 Doctor Who movie, where a lot of the rage was because the Doctor kissed someone. Good thing that never happened again, eh?

The Star Wars prequels are not nearly as good as the originals, but they're not THAT bad. They're still enjoyable. Amusingly, I am under the impression that people these days are starting to turn around and realize that, well, these movies are actually decent. The Devil May Cry reboot. The thing is this one was less about the reboot itself (although it WAS unnecessary) and more about Capcom yet again ignoring their fans' opinions and downright taking the piss out of them. The 1996 Doctor Who movie, where a lot of the rage was because the Doctor kissed someone. Good thing that never happened again, eh? I always heard one of the biggest problems people have with it (among many other things) is that he was retconned to be half-human. Also, amusingly enough from what I heard, Eight gets a lot of action in the books.

Even though I think Jar Jar could have been less of a load on the rest of the cast, I'll still defend Phantom Menace otherwise.

Also, amusingly enough from what I heard, Eight gets a lot of action in the books. That was one of the things people complained about, although honestly, it got a lot less attention than the kiss and the idea that it was "Americanised" (what with its British writer, producer, director, and lead actor, filmed in Vancouver). If you compare it to more recent offerings like "The Impossible Astronaut", I know which seems more Americanised to me. And it's true. In his first book, 'The Dying Days', it's heavily implied at the end that he and Bernice Summerfield have sex. He also has a few longer term romantic interests, as well.

LeBron James being called a terrible person and the worst human ever for having a TV Special (with all profits given to the Boys/Girls Club) to announce what team he's playing for.

He's arguably the best player in the entire NBA, he's worth that kind of thing. Dwight Howard, on the other hand...

-Red Hood and the Outlaws issue #1. lots of people complained about it before reading the rest of the story and seeing what was really going on.
-Doc Ock taking over Spider-man's brain. for some reason some people thought it was a permanent change. though I do believe Marvel backtracked on having him hook up with Mary Jane after realizing what that would imply.
-Grant Morrison's use of Xorn. people claim Xorn was confusing and it was Morrison's fault. they're confusing his fairly straightforward "Xorn was Magneto all along" plot with the increasingly asinine things Marvel did later to retcon it, which are other, much shittier writers' faults *coughChuckAustencough*

I've never understood the hate for that. Batman understands that you gotta pay for stuff sometimes. Unlike that cheapass Superman that never seems to carry a wallet. You know Supes saving the world and all is pretty nice, but you still gotta pay for that hotdog. The vendor still has to feed his family.
edit: I totally said FEED HIS FAMILY... not feel. Maybe.

The vendor still has to feel his family. I second the Star Wars prequel backlash. They have nothing on the originals, but some of the nerd rage would make you think these were the worst movies of all time. Hell, I think Revenge of the Sith was actually pretty good.

That might have been one of my worst misspellings of all time. I agree with the prequels getting too much backlash. If for no other reason than John Williams was freaking amazing as always.

Even though I think Jar Jar could have been less of a load on the rest of the cast, I'll still defend Phantom Menace otherwise. I thought it was ok when I first saw it. But yeah, Jar-Jar was annoying as hell. I once proposed a game where you did nothing but kill Gungans while they screamed "Meesa no like this!" at you over and over.
