Random factoid learned today: back in 1984 she was offered (and trade papers even jumped the gun & said she accepted) the role of Jessica Fletcher on MURDER, SHE WROTE.
RIP ma'am.

Well, she will be with Carrol O'Connor in heaven. Heaven got itself the two leads in one of the most controversial good comedies of all time.
RIP Jean Stapleton

As long as I live, I will never see another mother character quite like Edith Bunker. A true classic. RIP

RIP. Loved watching All in the Family reruns when I was a kid and appreciate it more now that I'm older.

She hit an amazing sweet spot you don't really get with most sitcom characters. She was annoying, but not annoying enough to make you change the channel. In fact, that voice of hers actually made her sweet personality all the more charming.
You were too good, Edith. RIP.
