So, I was just on reddit and saw a Vine post that made the front page. I've been aware of Vine for a while, but never really took the time to look into it. For those, like me, that don't know exactly what Vine is; it's an app, owned by Twitter, that lets you record 6 second video clips. The app is, apparently, doing incredibly well for itself, becoming the most downloaded free app just a couple of months ago.
Now, Vine bares an awful lot of resemblance to Tout, which is almost the same idea, but lets you record a 15 second video clip to Vine's 6 second clip.
My question is, why did Vine take off whereas Tout has really yet to? Both allow you to take very short clips, but what gave Vine the edge over Tout? Was it the negative association with the WWE, or is there something else that I'm missing given the fact that both are almost the same thing?

You can splice together multiple mini clips within the 6 second clip on Vine. Perhaps people believe Tout is too limited? I would think an association with WWE would be negative to the general public though.

probably because of the fact it's owned by twitter
i don't think the gnneral public would even know about WWEs association with tout, or would even care if they did. although i did have a nice chuckle when it got big after WWE invested in tout.

The interactivity between Twitter and Vine is what makes it work.

The interactivity with Twitter combined with editing capabilities made it less of a "shout out" or "15 sec rant" device and more of a way to make some type of short form art/joke - in app.
TOUT was just 15 seconds of people talking into a camera, which seems pretty useless to me. It's not like youTube doesn't already fill that void.

Because Vine rhymes with Swine, which is kind of like a pig. And pigs are funny. Tout rhymes with clout, and that's not funny. So no one buys it.
