During this episode the first act break ends with "To Be Continued...." which is a hilarious joke since the episode picks up 2 minutes later. However I could swear that when this show originally aired the reasoning behind this was because Fox had split up the episode for some weird gimmick (possibly sweeps week) they did that night. I swear watching it the night it aired, seeing it go up to the "To Be Continued...." part and then they aired an entire episode of another show (possibly Drexell's Class or In Living Color) and THEN aired the rest of the Simpsons episode.
I've tried looking up information on this and haven't seen anyone anywhere mention it. Am I going crazy?

I've googled it with sweeps and there's no mention of it. It was just a joke by the writers and not a sweeps gimmick.

I've never heard about them doing that.

I think it was a joke about a crime-drama TV show, but I can't remember which one.
