Olympic Kurt Angle had the face vignettes and everything but he cussed out crowds about a month into his run so I doubt he was thinking like a face. Though, he was still supposedly standing up for "good old-fashioned American values", despite acting like a bully-esque heel.

Jericho would do this in WCW. When he heard boos he would say "thankyou" with a big smile on his face. He'd demand title shots and use loopholes in WCW rulebooks because he thought the fans deserved to have him as their champion. When he joined WWF his first promo implied that he had come from WCW to save WWF fans from the boredom of watching the mediocre material that they had suffered through without him. I was coming in here to mention Jericho in WCW

I read this and my smile got progressively bigger and bigger as I thought about Jericho's promos from that time.

The problem with that is that heel jericho would also take pro-jericho signs from the fans and rip them up.

2003-05 Christian called himself Captain Charisma and the 'New People's Champion.' I thought that was the "Nude Peeple's Champion". You mean I took my clothes off for nothing?

RNN-era Randy Orton (which I still maintain is the most entertaining he's ever been.)

I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but didn't Bradshaw do this really early on in his JBL character? I remember him shaking hands with fans and addressing the crowd like he was a good guy trying to help them become a success if they read that book he wrote. It's been so long ago but I vaguely remember something like that. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here.

Y'know, this makes me want to see a heel who believes the boos he gets are a "controversial" reaction like Cena gets. Hell, maybe could just straight give him Cena's exact gimmick except with the commentators talking about what a dick he is instead of playing him up as the ultimate hero, that'd be kind of fun.

"It ain't personal - it's just personal hygiene!" Internet at the time be damned, I friggin' loved JBL as WWE Champion.

The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers loved their new home America and they loved the fans. First guys I thought of.....fans booed the crap out of them and they thought they were loved

I think the fans secretly did like the Fabulous Rougeaus. How could an American crowd not love the All-American Boys, especially when they always carried little American flags with them, and fought foreign hooligans like the Bushwhackers?

Cena is definitely the definition of this.
He's a hypocritical cry-baby character that refuses to acknowledge the hate and never changes. He bullied Michael Cole and John Laurinitus in matches, constantly slapped Josh Matthews hard on the back each time he was interviewed, considers himself an underdog despite being an 11-time WWE Champion and being on top the past 8 years and taunted fans in promos by saying: 'you want to see me have an edge and get angry? well too bad.'
Cena is the ultimate heel of this generation.

I want to see a wrestler who wrestles and acts like a full on face, but just happens to randomly be constantly booked in matches against other faces and/or teaming with heels. Like an RVD during the Invasion type of guy.

Like an RVD during the Invasion type of guy. Just once, I want to see a GM who makes a random abrupt tag match that doesn't put the heels and faces together. Like, comes out and books Sheamus and Fandango against Miz and Sandow.

Kurt Angle essentially invented and perfected that character. Pretty much my first thought when I read the thread title.
