At least Lucina being a clone of Marth makes sense, considering she was, you know, flat out pretending to be Marth at the beginning of Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Actually, the two new clones and one returning one do make sense: Lucina is as you mentioned. Dr. Mario is Mario, but minus FLUDD so those that want a Melee style Mario have him back. Dark Pit was made from the Mirror of Truth, and pretty much is Pit, but with a slightly different personality.

I don't think anyone's arguing that the clones make no sense (except Captain Falcon/Ganondorf, but that's been like that so long that if they were going to change it they would've by now so Ganon's just never getting his own moveset).
They're just...unnecessary. There's no reason to pad out the roster with superfluous characters like that.

Dr. Mario is the only one I would consider superfluous.
Lucina is one of the three mains of the newest Fire Emblem from what I can tell, and Dark Pit is the second most appearing character in Kid Icarus Uprising. They are both representing those games.

Favorite Newcomer? {Spoiler}{Spoiler} All other poll questions answered in a pro-Mother/EarthBound fashion.

I was initially annoyed about Dr. Mario, but given he's kind of there for the sake of Melee-addicts, I appreciate the gesture, even if I prefer Brawl.

Mac is probably the newcomer I'm most excited for.
Him or Megaman.

Little Mac, followed by the three way tie of Village, Mega Man, and Mii Fighter, for me.

So what's everyone's thoughts on the demo so far? I think the Villager is extremely awesome and fun as hell to play as. Megaman was cool too.

I found the DS controls slightly awkward for some reason;
The returning people feel pretty much the same from what I remember.
Megaman took a little getting used to but he's fun.
Wasn't really feeling anything for the Villager one way or the other...

All I'm gonna say about the US ads is that I love the guy who wanted to be Little Mac, and they even threw in the guy who played Doc Louis from the Punch Out!! commercials to boot. I also find this to be interesting, but it's clearly a fake: {Spoiler} i.imgur.com/2jZgoUx.pngThe "leaker" mentions that two Wii U characters that would become 3DS DLC are Isaac and some other character. However, the discussion refers most likely to Rune Factory.

My only problem with the demo was that the shoulder buttons were backwards.
I don't know about anyone else, but I always use R to throw and L to block. Too used to Melee's controls and Z being throw, I guess.

Reading some reviews of the Japanese release, it appears you can customize the controls.

I'd far rather have some extra options who are just altered versions of others than to have those spots completely empty. Anyway, yeah. The Punch Out commercial was a pretty fun one, not as big on the other two but that one sold it. As for my favorite newcomer... What with Lucas gone I'm planning to main Rosalina, Palutena, or Lucina, not decided which yet. Maybe Lemmy.

Gonna be hard to adjust, only to then readjust when I eventually get a Wii U.

Well, Naruto Mii creators now have a prop to use in the Smash games.
