And how very well executed it was.
No-one saw it coming, there was no build up to it, but Ziggler's selling of being in pain, the history of his injury and Del Rio's slowly changing mannerisms all told a very subtle story, and it worked brilliantly, and the commentary was top-notch here too.
One of the best heel turns I've seen in a long time.

Brilliantly done, I think. That's how you do a double turn.
Also doing it in Chicago actually got the motherf***er some heat.

It was absolutely brilliant. A fantastic performance. He started off as a smiling face. Turned into a "hey I'm the good guy, why aren't you cheering me" look then....he went straight demonic. The evil look on his face when Big E. Got tossed from ring side. Him kicking the divas title. Him repeating "it's coming back home, it's coming back home" as he kneeled in the corner waiting for Ziggler to get up so he could do his enziguri. Him smiling and holding his arms out as dolph grabbed at his legs. Just beautiful. Del Rio has the best facial expressions in the business. All that combined with the straight up and down. All around. Through and through whooping that he layed on Ziggler. It was amazing. I'm hoping with some minor tweaks and a long over due impact finisher. That wwe just let's him be a ruthless psycho because i believe wwe has FINALLY found the "del rio character". Bravo to that man *claps*

Awesome heel turn, too bad it will lead to Del Rio and Ziggler interacting, they're like a black hole of boredom for me.

Awesome heel turn, too bad it will lead to Del Rio and Ziggler interacting, they're like a black hole of boredom for me. The World Heavyweight Championship in general is a black hole of boredom. It's like WWE has deemed Ziggler and Del Rio "not good enough" to be in bigger storylines, such as feuding with the Shield, etc. But they still want to pretend that they're "stars" so they just threw the Big Gold in their direction to make them look relevant.

I don't know. I think they're probably making a mistake in the long run. With a little more storyline/tweaking to his face character...I could have actually liked Del Rio better than I did. Dolph Ziggler is totally unlikable to me. He just seems like somebody who has no business being a babyface, but that's just me I guess. The problem with babyface Del Rio is they simply didn't try with him. There could have been so much more they could have done with him if they bothered.
As for the turn...it was good, but again I have a feeling they're making a mistake in the long run. Again, this is just my opinion though...

It was brilliant. Del Rio is a terrible face, and Ziggler was starting to become too likeable to be a heel. Del Rio's promo after the match made me legit pissed, that's how great the execution was. In the time of happening I couldn't think of it this way because of anger, but now I see that it was indeed a brilliant and a clever move on WWE's part.

Del Rio's great facial expressions and body language were what made it all work. I noticed a weird smile as he was introduced in the match, wondered if it meant anything. And the more he kicked Ziggler in the head, the more the old Del Rio smirk came back and he would stand back and take in the crowd reaction, kind of like "hah, yeah...you guys don't like me too much, do ya?" So well done. I respected Del Rio as a wrestler already but this brought him up a notch in my eyes.

Del Rio has always been praised for his facial expressions since day one so not surprised that he's still being praised for them. Unmasking him was the best decision the WWE ever made. He should really be doing less talking (he's only good at cutting promos in Spanish) and let his body language speak for himself but alas, the WWE Universe is not a subtle bunch. They won't catch on to it quickly like we can.

This is the first double turn since Austin/Angle in 2001, right? I wouldn't even consider that a double turn, it's just WWF all over the place with characters.

I feel weird saying this, but Del Rio here may be one of the few heels that I actually think have a decent point. Here you had someone willing to defend his friend against the Big Show's attacks, had to deal with a couple of xenophobes who wanted him deported, fought gamely against a Ziggler cash-in despite dealing with a gimpy leg, and he just didn't get respect despite being one of the most obviously valiant and sympathetic babyfaces on the roster.
I know his character's wealth and naturally smarmy aura make him seem disingenuous by default, but everything he said was technically right. He wasn't making stuff up or stretching half-truths the way, say, heel Punk does- this was a pure Bret Hart turn.
