Between the two, which one did you prefer. Both games had an interesting story. Gameplay wise, as FFT came after Tactics Ogre, it was much more smoother and easier to play, especially when Tactics Orge had that whole permadeath thing. On the other hand, the PSP version of the game flipped things over a bit. There was a few changes with FFT, while Tactics Ogre really changed several things about the gameplay... though in many ways it made the game too easy.

Final Fantasy Tactics. Tactics Ogre is good, but I was terrible at it.

Tactics Ogre has many excellent ideas, but Tactics is in many ways an improved realization. My major gripe is that the original Japanese version of the game has some truly nonsensical number scaling (namely, the absurd cost of many abilities vs. the time needed to grind them and stay within a challenging level range) which were sanity-checked when the game was first brought over to the US on the PS1, but preserved for the War of the Lions rerelease.
Even that doesn't tarnish FFT for me, though. One of the best games from the PS1 era.

They've done a pretty good job in remaking the jobs in Tactics Ogre in the remake, in any case. Somewhat, as it did give several of them actual skills, as opposed to the old version of the game. They definitely overpowered the archers, though.

Music = FFT Gameplay = tie (they are basically identical) Characters = FFT Storyline = FFT Replayability = Ogre (only because there are multiple endings) overall FFT edges out Ogre to me. Plus I kinda like the fact that {Spoiler}You are a hero that will never get credit for saving the world, and your jaded best friend who never forgives you for allowing his sister to die a pagan's death lies/cheats/steals his way to glory and takes all the benefits of your hard work. Also, the FFT universe is ongoing when you factor in that the story of Ivalice (FFT's setting) is also represented in Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy 12.

Both were great titles really, but Final Fantasy Tactics felt more complete as a game.
Tactics Ogre was awesome though if only for the multiplayer mode where you could pit two different armies of your soldiers against one another. Of course I could never find many people willing to play it with me back then.

I never got far enough in Tactics Ogre due to the permadeath thing being much stricter, but I did like what I played.
But FFT is, in my mind, the best game in the series all around.

If I recall, though {Spoiler}That Ramza did get acknowledged later on as the one who saved Ivalice from what would have happened, though it takes centuries to do so. Shame that Tactics Ogre didn't get a sequel, in any case. {Spoiler}Eyepatch Lans is still alive, and good Lans is still catatonic. Lodis is still pretty much going strong. The what-if scenarios in the post-game was pretty fun. And, completely unrelated to either game, but it would be cool to have a sequel to Gungir, which is pretty underrated.

But given the influence of the church, there's no telling if those writings will ever truly be recognized publicly or widely accepted.
