So I'll be in the good ol' U.S.of.A by way of Austin Texas from the 3rd July to the 9th.
One of the big things I'll be attending is the RTX convention as well as a few other places. I was wondering whether any locals on the board, or anyone with any sort of advice would be able to lend some to this ignorant Aussie. Such places to go, attractions to see, and I would especially like any pointers on the do's and don't's of tipping while there.
Thanks for any and all help.

See the largest colony of bats at the bridge. Go skinny dipping in Zilker park. Torchys tacos. Check out the clock tower at U of A if into macabre.
Just enjoy.

If you have access to a car, you have to try The Salt Lick BBQ restaurant, located on the outskirts of town. A true example of Texas BBQ. Just a heads up, it is a cash only establishment, but I think they have an ATM there.

Have a awesome time is the only advice you need.
My little sister was going to go to RTX, she even bought a ticket to the event. But she had to cancel cause she could not afford air fairs and accommodation (she was going to bunk up with a online friend that lives nearby but they were evicted or something). Shame I would of got her to say hello for me.

Take a plane. It'll be quicker than swimming.

Ok I'll definitely try and check out 6th and Guadalupe street. Unfortunately I won't be renting a car so I'll have to pass Salt Lick. Also I'll definitely keep an eye out for any potential skinny dipping spots. Finally I'll try to have a good time, but no promises there.
Thanks y'all.

Also, and im being serious here, if you bump into a chubby white guy with the nickname Pinky, let him know Odie misses him
Pinky = My ex and the guy who introduced me to Austin, dexing and the life of being a juggalo

Also try to eat a good Kolache/Klobasnek if you can some morning. Those are a great breakfast food that is just as common as the breakfast taco in Texas.

My brother lives in Austin. Visited him a few times and got totally wasted on 6th St. Some crazy shit goes on around there at 2 in the morning!

I am sorry to sound stereotypical, but I had a friend, an exchange student from Northcote and he loved Texas so much he decided to move here ten years later. Just a warning, Texas is a very addictive place.

Don't leave. Austin is f***ing amazing. Love that town.
6th street is a good time. Shakespeare's and Maggie Mae's are my favorites.
Also, Torchy's Tacos like someone else already said. Get the trailer park taco, and ask them to make it trashy.
Get a donut at Gourdough's.
Salt Lick like someone else already said. Spring for the all you can eat.
There's an awesome Indian restaurant called Clay Pit that I definitely recommend.
That's all I can think of for now. Enjoy, you're gonna love it.
