Wow, that's crazy. Matt Bourne was apparently an incredibly underrated worker. Mick Foley before about him telling him that some guys don't rake the eyes because they have to, but because they want to. It showed how well in tune Matt was in with these disturbed heels, like the original Doink for example. It's a shame he didn't go far with it after they turned Doink babyface.

The first wrestler I remember seeing. As a kid, I thought wrestling was stupid, but for some reason I liked Doink. Which is funny considering how silly the gimmick was.

One of the biggest names of the 80s to never win a title while he was in WWE.
And he was able to successfully reboot himself in ECW with the Bourne Again gimmick, which was awesome in and of itself.
RIP.

The guy was a master of psychology and character. I always thought he should have some sort of backstage agent role but now that'll never happen. RIP

Dear Lord.....I just saw him last Saturday at a show in Fairhaven, MA. I really wish I'd met him there too. He was dressed as Doink, but with a long green haired wig and reading glasses, which just looked fantastic. But friggin' Marty Jannetty next to him was.........scary. Either drunk or high, making a fool of himself the entire time I was there, and made that part of the aisle a danger zone I ultimately did not enter. RIP, sir. You were the best Doink ever. May the clown be gone forever now in your passing.... EDIT: And of course TMZ fails by posting a picture of one of the post-Borne Doinks....

My favorite Matt Borne memory...
His entrance as Big Josh at Superbrawl I, walking to the ring with bears, and the bears pissed all over the entrance ramp all the way to the ring.

Here is a guy who the WWE could have used so much, he had a fantastic mind for the industry and a great hand in the ring. He was the perfect person to be a road agent. However he fell fowl of the wicked demons that wrestling's dark side possess. RIP.

I've seen websites and twitter posts that have shown pictures of Ray Apollo as Doink in tribute of Matt Borne (TMZ did this and I even think WWE did this). This is understandable. What's less understandable is why WWE included this picture in their 'Remembering Matt Osborne' photo section. I am pretty sure this is Ray Apollo (Ray Liccachelli). It definitely looks like the babyface Doink who worked with Dink. It's definitely not Matt Borne. Also, on Wikipedia, I noticed 'Sgt. Kruger' is listed as a previous gimmick of Matt Borne. This was actually Ray Apollo's brief WCW gimmick when they created some tag teams for big tournaments.

Anybody remember sometime in the mid-to-late 90's a rumor spread over the internet at the time that Matt Bourne had died? The rumor got so common that an indie show decided to do a ten bell salute to him. Before the tenth bell rang Bourne had jumped the railing, hit the ring and started cutting a shoot promo. It would probably be a lot more infamous if it happened in a larger company.
I guess no chance of that happening this time.
RIP Doinkster.

Was a nice guy when I met him, though I honestly believe he may have been tired or intoxicated. It was pretty early in the morning, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

I followed Matt on FB. He was an angry veteran (Sometimes in a good way) but heavily into his family and god which I can respect even thought my opinions differ.
To my knowledge he lead a healthy life so this is indeed a tragedy. R.I.P Matt Bourne
