I followed Matt on FB. He was an angry veteran (Sometimes in a good way) but heavily into his family and god which I can respect even thought my opinions differ. To my knowledge he lead a healthy life so this is indeed a tragedy. R.I.P Matt Bourne Well, I don't know how clean he has been in the last several years, but he had a drug problem in the 1990s which led to him being released from WWE and his 'personal demons' have often been cited as one of his downfalls in wrestling.

Yeah I meant leading a healthy life in his later years. I know nothing of his former drug problems though.

He and my mom were actually friendly for a few years because of an accident at a show. I am not sure of the whole story but during a show he grabbed a cup of hot coffee my mom was drinking, thinking it was water and threw it, burning her. They ended up in court over it for some reason (something to do with the medical bills) but became friends and would end up teasing each other over it at later shows. If he saw her he'd always come over and say hi, or take a picture with me if I was there. He was also the only guy my mom would cheer for if he was a good guy. R.I.P.

Extremely shocking. I truly truly believe that he could have been the next Roddy Piper, he reminded me of him in so many ways. He was one of the most underrated guys in terms of how all-round solid he could be. One of the few who understood the psychology of wrestling.
Sadly another lost way way too soon.

He was a much better worker than Piper, but yeah, the psychology does stack up a lot.

Matt Bourne reminds me of the overabundance of blond haired guys with dark beards that popped up around wrestling in the '80s. But when he was in World Class, he stood out. Of course he's much more widely known as Doink, which set a new standard of excellently-bad altogether.
Rest In Peace, friend.

Sad news. I always shared the popular consensus that he was utterly awesome as Doink.

Something I just remember, back in 1991 when he was in WCW as Big Josh, my mom and I had front row seats to a house show. During his entrance, he went up to my mom (by passing everyone else, mind you) and shook her and while giving her a sly "hey baby, come to my room later" smile.
From then I always remembered him as the guy who seemingly made a pass at my mom.

In a strange way nearly as iconic to casual fans as Hogan, and worked wonders with a gimmick dangerously easy to botch - my regards to his family. Thank you for the memories, Mr. Bourne.

I think he was a very underrated. He was a very solid hand in the ring, without his skills Doink would not have worked as a character.
