I have something I really regret, as dumb as it sounds.
In 8th grade, I joined the basketball team at my school (a team that was the best in our conference, may I add.) I'm a big hoops fan, and figured I'd give it a shot. To put it bluntly, I was terrible. I wasn't a very polished player, I was out of shape from not playing in 3 years, and it looked like I'd be in the Scalabrine role (unathletic power forward who plays garbage time). After a few practices, being tired of sucking at running drills and scrimmages, I quit. The team did great, being featured in a local newspaper and winning a few tournaments. It's been a few years, and I've moved on to different extracurricular stuff, but it still pisses me off whenever I think about this. I still have the jersey hanging in my closet, and whenever I see it, or hear friends share stories of their playing days, it just pisses me off that I didn't keep playing.
Anything you guys regret?

Basically the same thing as you. When I was a Freshman, EVERYONE (including myself) wanted me to be on the football team because I'm a crazy athletic big man. Like... it's some shit. And I'm a big sports fan, and to be honest, I'd always wanted to play team sports (I played soccer for a while in elementary school, but I quit that too). So I sign up and I'm beyond excited for the first day of offseason conditioning... and despite getting scolded for cursing more than once, it's cool. But a big problem is that I never had a way to get home from practice because my parents both worked during the days... and to be honest I'm also pretty lazy. So after a little while of being on the team (a few weeks), I just stopped going to workouts/practices. One of the seniors called my house looking for me, and the coach basically started stalking me. Like he was looking for me everywhere after school, and I was hiding out to avoid the confrontation. Eventually he got me during P.E. after my fourth day of skipping, and I made up some BS story about my grades being bad and I needed to focus on that, so he said I could get tutoring or something, so I told him I couldn't get home from practice every day, and that's the last I ever heard about it.
Anyway, the team ended up making it all the way to the state finals, and lost 29 - 28. I was in the crowd, face-painted, waving my rally towel, wishing I was out there.
Making it even worse, they put my name and picture in the paper in the write-up about the game as being a big fan, and I just felt like such a loser seeing that.
My biggest regret ever. All the years I wanted to play team football and never did, and then I gave up before the season even started. And my heart has always told me that if I were on that team, we'd have won the state title that year.

I have lots of regrets. Like you guys I also gave up on sports, but sadly I gave up on it a whole lot earlier than middle school. I played little league in 2nd grade, all the way up to 4th grade and quit because I felt like I wasn't getting any better at it no matter how hard I practiced. Played basketball in 4th grade, but gave up on it because while our team had a terrible w/l record, I was still progressing far behind the rest of the team.
In eighth grade I started playing basketball again, not for my school but for a community league. Tried to practice and get better, but still found myself not progressing and gave up on it. I never really played sports or did any extracurriculars in high school until my senior year
I spent most of my adult life trying random endeavors, but haven't made much headway with any of them. I went to college, but various factors led to me taking much longer than expected to get my associates' degree.
Now I'm 26, feeling like I wasted most of my life.

Pretty much my entire existence from ages 14-22. Really poor decision making. Drugs, booze, anxiety, a girl who was not worth my time at all. Tons of it. at 25 I feel my best years have been 22-25. Really good place now, but it took a long time.

Let's see, not telling the girl I liked in middle school that I liked her. Made worse by the fact that it was obvious she liked me too(we would talk between class periods, and I literally mean between every class period, to the point of us memorizing the other's class schedule, she would often wave and smile at me unprovoked(she did these things in particular even before I knew who she was, now that I think about it), and to top it off she and her friends would routinely come up to me and ask me if I liked her and I'd just chicken out and do a little, "Kinda, sorta." hand gesture. Didn't help that pretty much EVERYONE ELSE in our grade kinda knew we liked each other. It was that obvious).
I also didn't apply myself to sports despite wanting to and at least being good enough at football that I really should have tried.
My most recent regret has to be when I was hired at the job I am at. See when I was being hired one of the hiring managers wanted to know if I would like to apply for the captain position at the store(essentially you open doors for customers, help customers, and generally help with everything in the front, captain is basically like an extremely limited in power manager and has a really good pay and career advancement opportunities within the company), but the day before they had already hired me as a dishwasher, and reminded the manager of that. So I essentially turned away one of the best positions in my company, high pay, advancement, and high on the totem pole, for one of the lowest positions on the totem pole and lowest paying jobs in the company.

I wish I hadn't quit hockey when I did. I was 12, and my dad just died and I was afraid of getting hurt. in retrospect that probably wouldn't have happened and I could've played for a few more years.
I regret not getting into comic books sooner because I started reading them when I was 20 and it opened up so much for me and is now a huge part of who I am.
also, typical "not manning up in high school" stuff.

I sometimes wish I'd been more into watching football as a kid. My dad's a huge fan, and I dunno, I just feel as though I'm missing out on a bonding experience with him.

Going to college. Lookin back, I would have been so much better off learning a trade. Definitely would have made finding a job much easier.

I should have tried harder in high school, I just gave up because nothing interested me anymore I could have wound up at a better college and maybe would have wound up with a better job.

I tend not to dwell on the past too much but two specific things spring to mind.
Firstly I'd have gotten a part-time job growing up to make it easier for getting a full-time job in adult life.
And secondly there was this girl I was really into in 6th Form. She liked me, I liked her but we were almost always in relationships with other people. Once when we were both finally single we were at 6th Form on a day when most public transport had been cancelled because of the weather and the 6th Form closed. We both needed to pick up stuff from town before going home so we went together. She's really scared of rivers (I don't know why, it's really weird) and so when walking across a bridge I playfully pretended I was going to throw her over and when I finally put her down we were very close face-to-face, the rain was pouring, she stopped laughing and just sorta of stared into my eyes etc. I couldn't have wished for a more romantic moment. So, of course, instead of kissing her I said "Well we better hurry up if you're gonna catch that bus". Biggest wuss out moment of my life.

I have zero regrets. Everything in life happens for a reason and if I chose a different path I might be better off financially but the friends I have in my life and the good times associated with them are priceless.

Not pursuing music more seriously after high school. Partying so much in the mid-late 00's... well, kind of. Not sticking with wrestling in high school.
