NIGEL MCGUINNESS MAKES A HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!
What is the future of Ring of Honor? (TV SPOILERS CONTAINED)



There has been a great deal of speculation regarding the future of the ROH World Title since Baltimore when Jay Briscoe was assaulted by S.C.U.M following his championship bout with Matt Hardy. There has also been rampant speculation about the future of Jay and Mark Briscoe as it pertains to ROH and their injuries suffered at the hands of Steve Corino’s crew.

As we saw here in a video Jay Briscoe sent to ROHWrestling.com, the World Champion is obviously injured but also obviously upset at the speculation and rumors about his & Mark’s future as well as the future of the World Title he fought so hard for the last eleven years to finally win.

Now, after anxiously waiting since Baltimore, we have received an official statement from ROH Match Maker Nigel McGuinness regarding the issues mentioned above:



To recap, for the very first time since Low Ki became the first champion, the World Title will be vacant BUT for the first time since the “Road To the Title/Crowning A Champion” events of 2002 there will be a tournament held to crown the new ROH World Champion!

Starting in Providence on July 27th and continuing in Toronto on August 3rd, NYC on August 17th, and culminating during “Death Before Dishonor XI” weekend in Philadelphia on September 20th & 21st, this tourney will feature 16 men battling it out for the right to hold the most prestigious wrestling championship in the world today!

The first man entered, as Nigel stated in his video, will be the top contender to the championship: “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin! Elgin had been patiently waiting for a title opportunity he earned back at “Supercard of Honor VII” when he defeated Jay Lethal but was one of many people sidetracked by the S.C.U.M situation. Now he finds himself the first man entered into the tournament that kicks off later this month and his 1st round match-up will go down in the city where he was originally scheduled to challenge for the World Title: Toronto on August 3rd!

2ND ENTRANT SET FOR THE TITLE TOURNAMENT
And it's the return of an ROH Founding Father...



Yesterday it was announced that the ROH World Title had been vacated and a tournament to crown the new champion would begin in Providence, RI on July 27th and run throughout the summer until "Death Before Dishonor XI" weekend in Philadelphia. The first man entered into the tournament by Match Maker Nigel McGuinness was the top contender for the belt "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin and now ROHWrestling.com has been given the name of the second entrant into the field....

BRIAN KENDRICK!

It has been over three years since Kendrick has stepped into an ROH ring, since the "8th Anniversary Show" when he lost to Roderick Strong to be exact, and now he makes his return on August 3rd in Toronto with an opportunity to become the new World Champion at stake!

Kendrick, or Spanky as he was known then, does have some experience in this type of situation as he was one of the four men who competed in the legendary Iron Man Four Way at "Crowning A Champion" alongside Low Ki, Doug Williams, and Christopher Daniels. Spanky and Williams both scored -1 point in that fight Low Ki ultimately won but that was 11 years ago and Kendrick has since become an internationally traveled veteran of the ring wars.

With a surprise like Brian Kendrick announced as the 2nd entrant, who knows who else Nigel McGuinness could be in contact with to compete in this 16-man tournament? Michael Elgin and the returning Brian Kendrick have already been announced as the first two participants in the World Title Tournament that begins in Providence on July 27th and continues throughout the summer until we reach Philadelphia in September. There are fourteen other men still to be named for this single elimination tournament and ROHWrestling.com has now learned the name of the third man who will join the field and he is someone who earned your "Please Come Back" chants in New York City...

"The Machine Gun" Karl Anderson!


This member of the BULLET CLUB in New Japan Pro Wrestling impressed earlier this year in his bout against Roderick Strong as well as that opposite the aforementioned Elgin and now he will return to Ring of Honor in hopes of adding the ROH World Title to his already impressive championship resume. Anderson's road to the championship will begin on July 27th in Providence when he competes in his 1st Round bout but will it end there or continue on until ROH returns home to Philadelphia?

The field of the ROH World Title Tournament is already stacked with only three names released in Elgin, Kendrick, and Anderson and there are still 13 more to go. With the tournament set to begin on July 27th in Providence, RI and continue on in Toronto and NYC, before coming to a head in Philadelphia in September, the desire to be part of the field is running high in the locker room. ROHWrestling.com now has the name of the fourth men to enter the tourney and he is a man with a chance to become a 2-Time champion with a victory:

The former World Champion, the man who was dethroned by Jay Briscoe at "Supercard of Honor VII", will have his chance to become only the second 2-Time Champion in ROH’s eleven year history. As everyone well knows, Nigel McGuinness had been very wary of Steen in the shadow of his excommunication from S.C.U.M but with how he stepped up in Baltimore it seems that the man once known as “Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare” has earned a berth in the tournament. His first round bout will go down in the city where he won the World Title in the first place: Toronto on August 3rd!

London, who made his return to ROH after ten years at "Border Wars 2013", left ROH in the first place following a World Title loss to Samoa Joe at the inaugural "Death Before Dishonor" in 2003. Will the weekend of "Death Before Dishonor XI" host a return to the championship picture for London? Paul London's road to the championship begins in Toronto on August 3rd and you can follow it over the course of the summer as the World Title Tournament rolls on! Roddy is no stranger to the World Title having held the belt from “Glory by Honor IX” on 9/11/10 until “Manhattan Mayhem IV” on 3/19/11 when Eddie Edwards dethroned him. Roddy is no stranger to championships in general either as he is only one of two men (the other being Edwards) who can claim status as an ROH Triple Crown Champion.

Will Roderick next be able to lay claim to the moniker of 2-Time Champion as only one other man has done? His pursuit of that will begin on August 3rd in Toronto when Strong competes in his First Round tournament bout! Who will be his opponent? Panama City's Finest Joins The Field...



Elgin, Kendrick, Anderson, Steen, London, Strong...the list of competitors in the World Title Tournament is already impressive and reading like an all-star ballot. Now another man has been thrown in the mix that makes the field even more competitive and he is one who came close to claiming the World Title at “Border Wars 2013”:

Adam Cole!

On two occasions Cole has attempted to become World Champion, at “Rising Above 2012” and the aforementioned “Border Wars 2013” event, but has come up short each time. Those losses have only made him even hungrier to lay claim to a title many fans have felt Cole was destined to hold since the day he first started with Ring of Honor. Despite the recent questionable actions of Cole, he has shown that all the tools are at his disposal, it is just a matter of putting it all together to become champion. Can Cole finally do it? He will take his first steps on the path to the World Title on July 27th in Providence and, should he succeed, it will continue on in Toronto, New York City, and Philadelphia!

Seven men have stepped up thus far to enter the World Tag Title Tournament, nine more are still to be named before it kicks off in Providence on July 27th, and one of those men has officially been set as of this morning:

Sonjay Dutt

It has been over two years since Sonjay Dutt has entered into the ROH ring to compete with his last bout taking place at “Final Battle 2010” where he fell to Eddie Edwards and to Roderick Strong one night prior at “Tag Title Classic II”. His history with ROH, while not the deepest, has seen Dutt involved in one of the biggest shows in ROH history with “At Our Best”, challenging for the World Title against Bryan Danielson at “Death Before Dishonor IV” in the midst of the war with CZW, and spending a great deal of 2009 competing against men like Delirious, Tyler Black, and El Generico just to name a few.

Now Dutt makes his return to ROH in hopes of adding the World Title to his already illustrious championship resume and his path to that dream will start in Providence, RI on July 27th! From there the championship road leads to Toronto and New York City before ramping up in Philadelphia during “Death Before Dishonor XI” weekend! Whitmer has long strived to reach the top of the mountain in Ring of Honor, most recently challenging Jay Briscoe for the World Title at “Relentless” in Richmond, but has never managed to reach those heights. At “All Star Extravaganza V” in Toronto on August 3rd his quest to ascend will begin once more and, hopefully for BJ, continue on into NYC and Philadelphia where the next World Champion will earn his title. THE 10TH MAN IS NAMED!
The Psychopath Has A New Project...



Nine have come, seven more will follow, and one of those was officially set this morning when ROHWrestling.com was provided with the name of the tenth individual who will enter into the World Tag Title Tournament that begins on July 27thin Providence, RI. That man is one who made a surprising return to Ring of Honor at “Border Wars 2013” and is coming off a hard-hitting battle with Michael Elgin at “Best in the World 2013”:


“The Sicilian Psychopath” Tommaso Ciampa!

Ciampa, while having come quite close to capturing the World TV Title in the past, has yet to claim an ROH championship during his tenure with the company. “The Sicilian Psychopath” looks to change that when his journey towards the World Title begins on August 3rd in Toronto at “All Star Extravaganza V”.

Who will be his opponent? Well with six more individuals still to be named to the field that revelation is still to come but make sure you check back later today to see who the 11th entrant into the tourney will be! The number eleven is a lucky one when it comes to the game of craps and for our next entrant's sake, hopefully that parlays over to the World Title Tournament that begins on July 27th as part of the “Ring of Honor Wrestling” TV Tapings in Providence! Just who is that next man?

Jay Lethal!!!

Lethal has had his eyes set on the World Title since the day he returned to Ring of Honor in 2011 after a lengthy absence and nearly fulfilled that dream in a pair of bouts with Davey Richards during The American Wolf's title reign as well as twice against Kevin Steen during his reign. Now, in Providence on the 27th, Jay's dream will begin anew when he has his 1st round battle during the ROH TV Tapings.

Should he prove victorious the chase will continue in Toronto and NYC before culminating during “Death Before Dishonor XI” weekend in Philadelphia! Michael Bennett Has His Eyes On The prize!



The field for the World Title Tournament is almost complete with 11 of the 16 competitors announced. With the tourney set to kick-off on July 27th when ROH heads to Providence, RI for a round of “Ring of Honor Wrestling” TV Tapings the names have been coming out fast and furious on ROHWrestling.com.

Now we have been provided with the next entry for the brackets and he is a man who had two opportunities to become World Champion during his ROH tenure when he challenge Kevin Steen but came up short on both occassions. Now, with a new fire underneath him, the next man to join the tournament is hungry to prove himself deserving of the hype that preceeded him:

Michael Bennett!!!

The man recently declared that “The Prodigy is dead” but what that means for his future remains to be seen. One can be certain though that on August 3rd in Toronto, when Bennett begins his quest to claim the World Title, that the ROH faithful will find out exactly what it means.

It's the fear of the number 13 and let's just hope that neither of the two men who will vie for the 13th spot in the World Title Tournament suffer from it because this is the opportunity of a lifetime.

On July 27th in Providence, while the World Title Tournament is kicking off around them, Silas Young and the newly-signed Adam Page will go one-on-one with the winner claiming that thirteenth spot in the tournament! For both men it is the opportunity of a lifetime and it is one earned because of how they impressed Match Maker Nigel McGuinness in their recent bout on ROH TV. The winner will then head on to “All Star Extravaganza V” on August 3rd in Toronto where he will compete in his First Round match-up!

For either Silas Young or Adam Page this could be the start of a dream come true and all starts in Providence! The man representing the HoT has amassed an impressive record as TV Champion with victories over men like Adam Cole, Eddie Edwards, Matt Hardy, and ACH. Now he looks to have that same success in the World Title Tournament when he begins his journey towards greatness on August 3rd in Toronto at “All Star Extravaganza V”! Tickets for that event, as well as the events in Providence, NYC, and Philadelphia that will also host the tournament, can be found right here in the ROH Store!

Fourteen men are set to compete in the World Title Tournament which starts Saturday July 27th when ROH returns to Providence, RI for a huge round of TV Tapings! The first round matches will go down in Providence & Toronto with the tourney continuing in New York City and Philadelphia during "Death Before Dishonor XI" weekend.

There are still two position left to fill and ROHWrestling.com has learned that originally Match Maker Nigel McGuinness wanted to include BOTH Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards in the tournament given their respective championship resumes. However both men respectfully declined in order to spend their summer focused on capturing the ROH World Tag Team Titles in the possession of reDRagon.

So with the final 2 spots available, McGuinness found secured one of the entrants who will be announced later today. As for the other competitor, as we eluded to yesterday, a decision was made to allow you, the ROH Faithful, to select the 15th man!

On Saturday night July 27th, as part of the first round match-ups in the ROH World Title Tournament, ACH will enter the field as the 15th entry and it's all thanks to YOU, the ROH faithful!

In addition, ROHWrestling.com has also been informed that in his first round match-up the man whose name some say stands for Attitude, Charisma, Heart will face off with the BULLET CLUB's representative in the tournament, "The Machine Gun" Karl Anderson!

ACH has a huge mountain to climb if he hopes to advance into the second round but based on his performance against a similar powerhouse named Michael Elgin, ACH certainly has the tools to pick up the victory, it's just a matter of putting it all together to pick up the win!

Earlier today we announced that the 15th entrant into the World Title Tournament would be determined by your votes on our official Facebook page. We also said that Nigel McGuinness had secured the last entry in the field and he has now confirmed that 16th, and final, name with ROHWrestling.com...


Mark Briscoe!!!


Mark has been out of action since the June 23rd TV Tapings in Baltimore when he was viciously assaulted by S.C.U.M after already having to bow out of Steel Cage Warfare due to injuries suffered during his "Best in the World 2013" World Title bout against brother Jay the previous night.

While Jay Briscoe is still slated to be out of action for the next 3-6 months due to the severe shoulder injury that forced McGuinness to strip him of the World Title, Mark has informed ROH officials that he expects to be cleared by the doctors from his recent concussion come July 26th!

With that in consideration, Nigel McGuinness has named Mark Briscoe as the last entry into the field with his first round match-up taking place on July 27th in Providence!

That's not all though; McGuinness has also informed of us of the first official Opening Round match-up for the tournament and it will be Mark Briscoe versus Adam Cole! In addition, we have also learned that the winner of that bout will move on to "All Star Extravaganza V" in Toronto for their second round match-up!

With one man left to be named tomorrow based on your Facebook votes, you can expect the other first round match-ups to also be set in the coming days. The road to the title begins in Providence and leads us straight back home to Philadelphia in September... tickets for all of the events are available right here in the ROH Store!

The American Wolves come out and Davey Richards puts over Fish for wanting to put the titles on the line, then says the Wolves want a shot at the title.

3. Jay Lethal beat Sonjay Dutt to advance to the quarter finals in the ROH World Championship tournament. Lethal pinned Dutt after a superkick to the back of the head followed by the Lethal Injection.

1. Matt Taven (w/Truth Martini & The Hoopla Hotties) (c) beat Bryan Fury to retain the ROH World Television Championship. Lots of interference during the match. Taven pinned Fury after a Headlock DDT

- Michael Elgin comes out and cuts a promo saying the rest of the wrestlers in the title tournament should be worried about him.

2. Karl Anderson beat ACH to advance to the quarter finals of the ROH World Championship tournament. Anderson pinned ACH after an Ace Crusher.

5. Homicide & Eddie Kingston (w/Prince Nana) beat Marshall Law (QT Marshall & RD Evans). Post match Homicide attacked Evans and broke one of his fingers.

5. Mark Briscoe beat Tadarius Thomas with the Froggy Bow

- ROH World Champion Adam Cole came out to cut a promo, but was run off by Jay Briscoe and Michael Elgin, leaving the title in the ring. Jay and Elgin began fighting over the belt until the referees broke it up and Cole got the belt back.

6. Michael Bennett & Maria Kanellis beat Brutal Burgers (Brutal Bob Evans & Cheeseburger). Bennett pinned Cheeseburger after an Ace Crusher. Post match Bennett cut a promo bragging about ending BJ Whitmer's career. Bennett tried to give Cheeseburger a piledriver, but Kevin Steen made the save. Steen says he's got a problem with Bennett because he has the best piledriver in the business. Maria slapped Steen and a fight broke out.

- Steve Corino ran in and cut a promo, stating he has a contract with Ring of Honor making him the color commentator for ROH television.

8. Jimmy Jacobs beat Silas Young. Very short match. Before the match Young cut a promo running down the ROH fans and Jimmy Jacobs, saying he used BJ Whitmer to get his job back.

9. Davey Richards beat Ricky Marvin after a Brainbuster.

- Veda Scott came out to ringside and served Nigel McGuinness legal papers.

- Kevin Steen came out for his match against Eddie Edwards, but was attacked by Michael Bennett, who gave him a piledriver. Steen demands the match continues.

10. Eddie Edwards beat Kevin Steen after reversing a Package Piledriver into a small package. Post match Michael Bennett came back out to attack Steen, but Steen fought him off and gave him a piledriver, then helped Edwards give him a piledriver as well. UNBREAKABLE DETERMINATION....


Since the announcement of the ROH World Title Tournament, so many things have ran through my mind. It's hard to out them all in order, because of how much there is so I will try my best to clear my mind here.


I started this journey a long time ago, I can vividly remember stepping foot in a wrestling ring for the first time at the age of 14. I was so eager, I had spent the year before dieting to prepare because I was over 300lbs at 13. But the drive and determination to wrestle was so fierce inside me I would do anything to realize the dream. The summer I entered training I was down to 170lbs and found myself ready to train. I admit now I may have too young, and the school I went to wasn't a place if advise anyone to go to. Fast forward a year later and Squared Cirlce was the destination in Ontario for people who dreamed of being a professional wrestler. I moved my training there, already knowing basics was a big help and prepared me to gain real knowledge. After a few months I was ready to have a match, and at 16 it was off to the races.

I still remember calling into work and asking for time off, they said they couldn't give it to me. I was in a tough spot, I wasn't booked but had the opportunity to drive with a few guys to Detroit for a double shot. Friday morning came and I hopped in the car, called work and told them a family member had passed away and couldn't make it to work. I was promptly fired Monday after noon when I returned. Not only this, I had to deal with my mom getting very angry with me the night before I left, now I understand she was worried about her 16 year old boy driving with people she didn't know to a different country and doing something he could get hurt doing. This weekend was one of the most memorable of my life, I had been infected by the sport and there was no cure.

I was young and at the time Ontario had a commission that wouldn't let anyone under the age of 18 wrestle, so for 2 years I had to travel anywhere that would let me perform. I spent countless hours in a car going to Montreal, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois trying to get as much experience as I could. Looking back the time in the car was just as if not more valuable then being in the ring at that time. 1 statement I made during these trips still lingers inside me, I said to my best friend after working with him almost every night that one day I would be ROH World Champion. That was almost 10 years ago I made that bold statement, but now it's an accolade that sits just at my fingertips. It's almost there, it's so close and I just can't quite get my grip on it.

Today I am 26, I have spent all of my adult life Wrestling. Finally I find myself that much closer to my goal, it is what kept me going, it's what drives me, it's what fuels the fire deep inside. The ROH World Title means so much more than just being able to call yourself a champion. If your reading this you know it's history, you know it's prestige. Every Champion before me earned the right to be ROH Champion, and by doing so he showed the entire world that he was the best Wrestler walking gods green earth.

The road that led me here, was long it was tiring and had its ups and downs. I've made some right decisions and in my past just as many wrong decisions. As a young immature man, I did some very stupid things, many things I'm not proud of but we learn from our mistakes. Without these bad judgment calls I wouldn't be the man I am today. I can't take any of them back even though some of them disgust me, but I can say I stand before you a better man. I struggled with my conditioning, I came back from a knee surgery too quickly and was very obese for many years wrestling. But as I said we learn from these mistakes, doing so makes us better and prepares us for what is to come.

16 men will fight for the right to call themselves ROH Champion, 15 men want it but I need it. I need it to validate everything I've done, everything I've been through. The wrongs in my life will be eclipsed and the rights will shine through. The hours on the road, sleeping in my car or getting 7 guys in a 1 bed motel room. The hours I dedicate to training and the cars I've wrecked, all the ups and downs of my journey have come to a crossroads. It's now upto me, and I promise win lose or draw ROH and the world will witness the best Michael Elgin that had ever steeped foot in a wrestling ring.

I know it won't happen, Karl Anderson as RoH champion would instantly get me watching regularly. And is there any reason Matt Hardy isn't in this tournament? He'd be the perfect heel to win the belt then drop it to RoH's next big face.

I went with Jay Lethal. I don't know what it is but I just don't see Elgin or Cole winning it here. Maybe it just seems too obvious for it to be one of them. My runner up pick would have been Mike Bennett just 'cause I'm starting to think his ship has sailed for the time being with WWE.

I want to see Michael Elgin get his due. In most of the independent promotions I've seen him in, he's always near the top of the card but there's always been one guy (seems to be Adam Cole a lot of the time) that gets the better of him. I feel Elgin deserves this tournament and a good 9-12 month reign as champ before falling to the Panama City Playboy who I hope links up with Truth Martini in the near future. I think Cole's heel persona would fit in better with the HoT rather than with Corino.

Jesus, that looks nasty. Hope BJ isn't hurt too badly. He's survived some pretty brutal things before.

BJ WHITMER INJURED

BJ Whitmer was taken to the hospital in Toronto, Canada after taking a scary bump on the apron of the ring. The hope within ROH is that he only suffered a stinger, but we don't have clarification yet on how bad the injury is. Once we hear an update, we will have more on Whitmer.

To follow up on what Mike wrote, during a match with Mike Bennett at tonight ROH show in Toronto, BJ Whitmer was taken to a local hospital after taking a Mike Bennett piledriver. The company felt that he suffered a stinger and he was taken to the the hospital to be examined further.

The match was cut short after the move and Davey Richards and EMTs came out to attend to Whitmer.
